Blisters during wet shoe runs

When I do long runs - I like to run on trails - change of scenery, hills, etc - it’s great. But if my feet get wet from stream crossings - I always end up with blisters:

The blisters are on the bottom of my foot - on the pad/forefoot - between that ball under your big toe and the other part of your forefoot. Long, thin, narrow blisters that hurt.

I am running in trail running shoes - that drain really well. I don’t think my socks matter but come to think of it - I have been wearing those “toe socks” on these runs. Maybe that is it.

What about lube, or tightly tied toebox vs. loose toebox, any other help is much appreciated.

My best tip is those two layer socks you can buy - in the UK we’ve got a brand called twin skin which I always used to use when running XC. The theory is the inner layer gets wet and stickes to your foot, the outer layer sticks to your shoe but crucially the two move past each other pretty easily so your foot isn’t chafed by rubbing against a moving surface. They can be a fiddle to get on without uncomfortable wrinkles but they’ve always worked really well for me.
