Ok so i went for a run 2 days ago. I got a blister about an inch and a half wide by an inch on the mid part of my foot on the inside. The skin covering it didnt look like it was going to be in good enough shape to heal so i removed it, and i have had a bandage and antibiotic ointment on it for the last 2 days. It is still red and can feel open wound paion a little on it if i walk on it. Does anyone know a way to bandage it so that i wont feel any pain from friction? The bandage i have on it now seems to rub a little and it hurts, i would imagine that would inrease if i went riding on it. I really want to go to this new group of fast riders i was invited to. Any advice would be awesome.
Use some of those bunion cushions you can buy at a drug store and put it on around the blister. That might help. Check the picture:

moleskin is one option. you cut a hole and put it over the blister to relieve the pressure. or tape a couple of gauze on there. I usually just put tape on any hot spots before they turn into blisters. just keep telling yourself “it’s only pain”. the nice thing about blisters is the skin that comes back is much tougher. lube up any spots prone to friction with bodyglide before you run. it make your shoes feel a little slimy but you soon forget about it. I always lube the insoles and inside of my running shoes in races where I’m not wearing socks.
sounds crazy… but I promise you that if you dry of that wound and cover it in a layer of superglue you will be able to run on it with virtually no pain. just make sure it is dry before you try to walk off.
Stallion1013…Sounds just crazy enough to work. Do you know if this will affect the healing time, as i have a tri this weekend? Also it is still red and sensitive, will the superglue irritate it at all, or make it worse? And one more, wound it be better to go get some of those Dr. Scholl’s® Blister Treatment pads and put it directly over them? Thanks, Dan
Second day?
Just lube it up a little inside your sock and you are good to go. Riding should be no issue…
Yeah, it will still hurt when you “START” walking or stepping on it, but trust me: After the second mile you won’t feel a thing.
Don’t be a pussie!
So…it’s on your arch?
FWIW - the best treatment for blisters is to let it dry. The skin will naturally heal itself. Ointment obviously helps prevent irritation/infection…but prolongs the healing process.
Scrub it clean, let it dry.
Believe me…I know all about blisters from my speedskating days. Superglue trick works well, although you’re better off trying to find Tinktor of Benzoine. Hard to find, as it usually packed in small samples.
Awesome advice, do you think betadine would help the dry out process?Ill try not to be a pussie also. Ill make up for it by building something or randomly punching someone in the face.
alcohol will help the drying process some. itll hurt like hell, but it helps. I’ve also used desitin: yes, diaper cream. It works, don’t knock it.
In reality, i think the super glue delays the healing process some. What I do is peel it off at night (relatively painless, don’t worry) and apply some desitin to help dry it out. then in the morning, wash it out, dry it real nice, and super glue the crap out of it.
One other option is to use duct tape. You can LIGHTLY wrap a strip of duct tape around that injured area of your foot. The smooth outside of the duct tape will actually slide very nicely inside a shoe, thus preventing any new blisters.
As you can see, I do all my shopping at Lowe’s Hardware.
