Blatant Ad: De Soto Liftfoil Speedsuit Sneak Preview

Here it is a promised. This is the men’s version front and back view.

This speedsuit is going to retail for $170.00.

It has no pads, no pockets, and is made for races that do not allow wetsuits.

This is not a wetsuit, it is a speedsuit. You will swim faster in it.We are sewing them up right now and will probably be available before the new year.

We cannot disclose information yet about the fabric, but we will.

More info to follow.

Here’s a softball for you Emilio… why does it make you (well, more importantly, me) faster?

I assume you’d just wear this over your tri shorts/top and peel it off. My Craft top chafes my underarm a bit, so I’m wondering if this would help with that as well. It is a pain to swim without a top and then put one on in T1. I’d rather be peeling something off as I’m heading to the bike.

Remember this is a speedsuit, not a trisuit. We have redesigned those too for 2007. I will post them soon!

Many people will peel this speedsuit off after the swim, but you can wear it for the whole race if you want. This one will only be offered in this color.

The Liftfoil material we developed for this suit is what makes you (and me) faster in it. This material absorbs less water than anything my competition is using. When stretched on a moving body, becomes thinner, so it absorbs less water. Because it compresses against the skin, it reduces passive drag, and acts as a foil to lift the body at the water surface.

You’re gonna make me go broke next spring :). That and i still need to send you my wetsuit to get fixed. i think i was supposed to do that 3 months ago lol.

Theirs will make you broke. $250.00 for a speedsuit? For that price you can buy ours and a lot more of our new stuff.

Given that swimmers - real swimmers - wear the absolutely latest and fastest in speedsuits I seriously wonder about the value of this suit. Your explanation doesn’t make much sense, and if you put the zipper in the front with a thingy dangling at the top you might want to advertise this as a suit for backstroke.
That is when the zipper is in the front.

First of all, that dangling thingy can be easily removed. Second, rather than wondering about the value of this suit, just remember, as I have written many times about all my products, form your own opinion about it…we will offer a 100% guarantee on all De Soto products. If after you buy it, you do not believe it lives up to your expectations, simply return it for a complete refund. See if you get that kind of guarantee from those other suits you wear.

Is this the suit you were wearing at Alcatraz that I emailed you about?

I imagine most will peel it off and have a trisuit underneath. With that in mind, have you thought of making it knicker length? It should peel off just as fast and maybe be even faster in the water.

emilio, i agree a longer leg would be interesting. have you tested this suit? would you be interested in some field testing from a 27 year old up and coming MOP in Indianapolis :)? I have got a t1 which showed me i really needed to swim a lot more when it took 5 minutes off my 1500 time!

An earlier version, yes!

re: Theirs will make you broke. $250.00 for a speedsuit? For that price you can buy ours and a lot more of our new stuff.

yes, but other suits are made for the bike and run, so the extra money seems worth it for a suit that you can also bike and run in. also, is this material breathable at all?

actually the other suits aren’t really made for the bike and run. The TYR shift suit (I have one) has no pad and the back zip is a real pain as it sometimes unzips during the swim and doesn’t allow you to zip it down easily on the run. Granted it’s made for swimming versus tri but TYR does cross market it. Speedos Fastskin II tri suits don’t have pads either although they are a bit more breathable, they also go for a front zip as the utility of it is a bit better. There are a few other suits floating around out there, the HED (and original brand) suit, I think Blue Seventy has a new one and Zoot has toyed with them off and on, but realistically I only hear about the TYR and Speedo suits for the most part.

If this suit works well for $170 I think it might be a great deal, well a good deal at least. The margin of improvement these suits give is pretty slim but when we’re searching for every spare second of speed…

Also, these suits place breathability at a pretty low importancy as most people using them will shed them in T1. With practice I can get my TYR off in about 5sec in T1 so hopefully if it saves me 10+ I’ll be doing well:) Of course this means we all also need to make sure we have our transitions down pat:)

zipper should be in the back. zip up and tuck the cord/string in the suit at the top.

do you think those are real numbers? save 10 seconds (in an oly?) and lose 5 seconds from the stripping?..alsways seems to me that people under estimate how futzing with the zipper slows down their run…anyone have any stats on net impact of wearing a trisuit or bottoms only (then putting on a top) vs. just shorts?

I’m thinking no zipper and velcro or bra-like hooks on one shoulder.

Yes, this product has been tested. We never bring anything to market without testing first.

Yes, but I am talking about speedsuits here not trisuits. There is a different. Speedsuits are just about making you faster in races that do not allow wetsuits. Trisuits (like our Power Skinsuits) are what you are describing.

We offer trisuits that are much less than their $250.00 and much less than our $170.00, that have pads and pockets so you can swim bike and run without changing. I will post photos of our new Forza Trisuits shortly too.
