Blackburn Airfix

Has anyone played with this or anything like it? Looks like a good way to eliminate another thing you have to carry.

I have several of those, I am a sales rep for the company. I don’t like EVERYTHING that Blackburn makes, and this is one product I am sort of torn on. It all depends on what you want to use it for. The inflation head is manufactured my Genuine Innovations, and much like all of their inflators, this one works perfectly. I do kind of like the Blackburn innovation of the way it accuates when you press it on the valve, kind of eliminates a step of a trigger, etc. The allen wrenches work well, except the one on the back of the tire lever which can’t handle a lot of torque. It is a 4mm, so you shouldn’t be cranking on it anyway. It is also the wrench that drives the chain tool, so if your pin is really tight you might want to look for another 4mm wrench if available. If it is all you have, it usually works ok. You will need to carry another tire lever if you tire fits tight at all.

My general feeling is that it will get you through emergency repairs on the road, which is what it is designed for. Don’t use the chain tool or the 4mm wrench in the end of the tire lever except in an on the road repair and you should be ok. It is nice that everything is in one piece. It seem a little heavy at first, until you try comparing it to carrying and inflator and all of those other tools, or a multitool with all those tools, then it doesn’t really seem to save you any weight, but it doesn’t really weigh more, and it is smaller.
