Bjorn in Westchester...How did it go?

For anyone who was racing the Westchester Olympic Tri in Rye NY today, I was wondering how things went. Did Bjorn post a sub 50 min bike split and hang on for dear life or did Joe U run him down ?

Hope all went well. I hope to be down again for this race next year !

I dunno the splits (other than an 11:XX swim leg, yes, it was WAY short), but he did win (see other post), and I chatted him up a bit afterwards, and he said he was feeling very tired, I’m sure the cumulative stress of a long season is taking a toll. Nice that he finished up his season over here w/ a nice win and a check.

I’m interested to see the actual splits too.

I think he did about 50 on the bike. He had about a 5 minute lead coming into T2. He won by about a minute.

Bjorn actually only had a ~2:11 lead out of T2- won by about :40, not bad considering 2nd went to ITU World Ranked Joe Umpenhour (ranked 22nd in ITU) , who is used to this racing format.

50’ on that course would be basically impossible. Way too many turns.

I think he went like 55-56 or so on the bike and then maybe 36-37 on the run. 11:30 on the (very) short swim course.

It was a moderately sized, but quite competitive pro-field.

Susy Williams won the women’s race by 7 minutes, placing 8th overall.

my watch had him at :36:28. Lets see what the official time had him at.

36:28 is between 36 & 37. I was just guessing based on about how long the transitions were and what he thought he did on the bike.

yup! you are right:-)
he also lost some time when he didint know which way to run in the transition area!!!

I’m glad to see that we missed going more out so that you could “work.”

So do you think Bjorn will use the same race-walking technique he applied today in IM races? He looked strong at the turn-around with that big powerful arm swing.

This was the closest example I could find:

Work is done! Now it is wasting time till I get sleepy!!!

Well def. go out in November when Bjorn comes in for MIT.

Ya like that big powerful arm swing?! lol

I agree, that the course is pretty slow with all the turns and some of the questionable pavement. Anyway, congrats to all of you guys. Perhaps I will get there next year.
