Biketraining before IM Texas from The Woodlands

Hi,

I’m trying to plan my taper rides after arriving in The Woodlands 7-8 days before IM Texas (too expensive to bring my rollers).

Any recommendations? I’m planning on riding 80-90 miles once, and then a few 40-50 miles.
I have a car = no problems to drive a bit to get out of town.

I’m used to small danish road almost without any cars - and honestly a little scared after reading quite a few bad stories about drivers on this forum.

Thank you so much in advance… and? Any Masterswims to join in the area?

I’m not sure if this would work for you, but I found a decent 20 mile route in Bender’s Landing, which is a short drive from the Woodlands. A local bike club rides around there-- I didn’t ride with them, but that’s how I discovered the route. Like you, I was concerned about cars and wanted a place that felt relatively safe. Bender’s Landing worked from that perspective. The only thing that surprised me was that some of the intersections are two-way stops and I’m used to everything being a four-way stop. Not sure you could do 70-80 unless you just repeated the same loop a few times

i was there in 2014 and the worst part of the ride are the roads after you exit the woodlands forest…you may want to deflate your tire pressure a little, unless you’re used to riding on rough roads and chip seal…that shit will wear you down.

i don’t know if the roads have been repaved since then, but i’d guess they’re close to the same…

It’s a completely different bike course now. Not saying your advice isn’t solid for practice rides in the area but the bike course is about 80% on the Hardy Toll Road now.

From swim workouts contact SnappingT here on the forum. He’s a Swim coach in the Woodlands area.

Lars,

Send me a DM and I can help you out with all of it.

Yes, I was going to suggest getting with Tim . His master swim group has one of their locations in The Woodlands (and the other in Magnolia which is easy to get to with a car).

As for bike rides, this is the route my work’s MS150 Bike team is doing from the Woodlands this week https://www.strava.com/.../2748325948817844848
