Bikes rides near ny

Hi, I live in Manhattan and I am looking to do some longer rides out of the city. I can take my bike on Metro North so I was wondering
if anyone has any suggestions. Thanks

check out the ride library for the new york cycling club (nycc.org). there is not a ride i know about that does not have a cue sheet there. so many good rides off metro north, so little time. be sure to get your bike permit at grand central before putting your bike on the train (again, protocol is covered on nycc.org). they geta zi pissed if you don’t play by the rules.

ride over the gw bridge to 9w in new jersey…you can stay on 9w for more than 100 miles…very good hills to train on
.

Here’s a site with a decent list of rides from the GWB to the Hudson Valley.

If you’re the one who stole my P3SL from my apartment yesterday, I will find you! Just kidding, but I wanted to share my pain! Let’s pray insurance understands why someone would have a $5,000 bike!

Go to Harriman or Bear Mountain - they connect. Fantastic riding / very little traffic (usually) / long climbs

If you’d like to do a BIG group ride there is the infamous GIMBEL’S ride. Several people from NYC ride up to the Loheman’s Plaza in Yonkers and then proceed up through White Plains into North White Plains. You can take the train into the North White Plains station and the ride goes right past the parking lot at about 10:00am on Saturdays, Sundays, and major holidays. There can be over 100 people on a good day, with the group splitting on rte. 22; some going “long” and most going “short.” The long ride goes up into Mount Kisco. The short ride goes through Greenwich and both rides pass by Westchester County Airport, Manhattanville College, and finish in Mamaroneck. I think if you ride from NYC and go “long” you will end up with about 80 miles. Tri bikes are frowned upon. If you are looking to ride over with anyone I would pop into the Toga bike shop and see if they know of anyone who rides over. The USI bike club always has plenty of riders on it…maybe they have a website with info…

ALSO…there is a MS Bike Tour that I think is called the TZ Tour that will be going over the TZ bridge in October; might be a great way to check out some new routes.

Thanks so much for all the info, very helpful as always!!

Also, try this site, www.westchestercycleclub.org

They have group rides all the time you can get in on. Beautiful riding in Westchester County.
