Bikes inside a car (Chevy Malibu owners?)

Is it possible to fit two bikes in a Chevy Malibu with the seats down? I would put an old comforter between them. My wife and I are doing RAGBRAI and need a one-way. We’re thinking of renting which means for a full-size is likely the Chevy.

I can fit my 52 cannondale or her 51 specialized as a single in our volvo (which likely has a smaller trunk), but two might be cutting it close. I’m also worried they’ll give me an ‘equivalent’ vehicle that has hardly any trunk.

Thanks for your help.

Are you trying to put them in the trunk?

I’ve stuffed a 57cm road bike without the front wheel and a mountain bike with the front wheel still on all at once in the backseat of a Hyundai Sonata, the smaller one… twice. I dont know how I made it work but I’m still proud to this day

Well, trunk with the seats down.

I guess I could wrap them up and just take the wheels off and stuff them in the back seat. I’ve never tried that before (or seen anyone else try for that matter).

with the wheels off both bikes you can put one in the trunk and one in the back seat with a blanket to keep the chain grease off. Note that an Impala won’t have a fold down rear seat, nor will a Marquis. They both have big trunks though.

They should get in the back seat w just the front wheels of easily. Both f wheels off for sure.

I can get two road bikes (54cm Felt F15 and a 50cm Felt F55) in the trunk of my 2000 Honda Civic SI if I fold down the back seat and take the front wheels.

They should fit. I used to get my large road bike into my WRX sedan, which is a substantially smaller vehicle (my roommate had a malibu, so it was an easy comparison to make). Two bikes would’ve been possible, but messy.

You’ll probably have to pull them apart and get wheelbags and towels to prevent scratching. Definitely be careful of the rear derailleurs.

I have a 2007 Malibu and have put 2 bikes in the trunk before with seats down. The trunk in that car is huge. I know newer versions have slightly smaller trunks, though

I can put 2 bikes in the back seat of my Focus if I take the front wheels off. A Malibu is a much bigger car than mine.

we put a 54 P2 and 52 P2 in the back seat of a 2000 Mazda Protege. i suspect the Protege is a bit smaller than your Malibu. we left the car seats up. took the front wheels off and stood them against the back seat. then both bikes facing the same side of the car, with the areo-bars turned toward each other. blankets or some such between everything.

the Protege transported everything very well, but was starting to show its age. we traded for a Honda Fit this year.
