Biker's nodule

If it doesn’t go away with a few days off the bike, are there non surgical options to consider?
It’s not painful, but it’s about 1.5cm or so. Anyone?

Anyone?

Are you sure it a “bikers nodule” … or just all thats still left of something else???

Dave

Corticosteroids and a few more days off the bike. Also possibly switching up saddles to get different pressure points, and judicious use of chamois cream.

Off the bike this week for sure. That said, at 1.5cm diameter, it’s gone a bit too big for hydrocortisone maybe.

Probably a cyst. I wouldn’t consider cyst drainage “surgical”.

It ‘feels’ keloid-like…Not sure drainage works.

If it’s keloid-like than its likely just scar tissue. Did you previously have a saddle sore there? In my experience they eventually go away…

Jodi

Yep and yep. Seems that corticosteroid injection helps dissolve it though.

Yup. When I worked in a Derm office we would routinely inject people with bad keloids. It would have to bother me a lot to do it though. Lots of time and money.

What bothers me is to ask my colleagues  (I’m in family and community med)
.

If you have a really good friend there maybe he/she could do it! Would have to be a really good friend…

I do…they’re husband and wife…so I’ll ask for a referral elsewhere
.

Haha! This is totally TMI, but when I was training for my first IM in 2007 I developed the mother of all saddle sores. My roommate and I were both aspiring Emergency Physicians so I asked her to drain it. She took one look at it and told me to go to urgent care. We still laugh about it.
