Bike travel case

need recommendations on a bike travel case. can you comment on degree of bike breakdown, ups and airline travel, please.

thanks,

Through the years I have acquired 3 cases. The performance case is the oldest (10yrs old or so) and the wheels have broken off. I have figured out a way to fix them myself. It is just a bit bigger than my other clam shell case, a Tri all 3 case. No complaints with it at all. Both of these cases require wheel, pedal, seatpost and handlebar removal and with my softride chain ring removal. Both are UPSable andfly for free about 60% of the time. My favorite case is a soft sided rather large case made by Bike Pro. Take wheels off, loosen the face plate on the stem let the bars lower but keep them on and take off the seat. It has a front fork mount and a r. derailleur protector built in. I usually put in my pump, helmet, shoes, clothes etc with no problem and just take a carry on. Plenty of padding and the least amount of disassembly required. It by far is my favorite case. Everyone wants to borrow it rather than my others. The one drawback is it doesn’t fly for free unless your really really lucky. Don’t know about UPSing it. Also doesn’t fit to well into compact cars.

I would recommend the “Performance Case”. They are cheaper, sometimes on sale, and you may be able to purchase at their retail store (if you are near one) thus avoiding the cost of having an empty case shipped to you. We have two and have used them for several training vacations flying to southern california.
