New carbon bike frame broke at the rear hanger. One thought for it breaking was because it was mounted on a trainer. The frame was replaced under warranty but now I am worried about putting it on the trainer. This picture is of the new frame mounted on the trainer. It is very very close to the frame. Is this OK? If not what do I do to move the it further out from the frame? The trainer is a Kinetic Road Machine that I purchased new in the winter of 2009 when I purchased the bike. The skewer is the one that comes with the trainer that is recommended to be used.
Theres a million of these threads floating around ST.
The answers are…
Most people will say that the trainer shouldnt affect the carbon bike- unless it is making contact
you can call or email Kurt and have them send you a different “cup” to attach to the QR that is shallower- and will not be as close as its shown in the photo
They should send that within a few days if you call and let them know whats up- and explain your situation- they may even have other ideas as to how to fix it
all done.
I called Kurt and they sent me a smaller cup it did make the space between the trainer and bike a little better and I have had no issues so far this winter.
Glad you got the other cup. Newer Cervelo P-series? Their rear dropout shape seems prone to this. I would also think that one could add a washer or two to the skewer between the end of the quick release and the dropout to create a bit more space.
I could fix that in under 5 minutes, and that includes the time it would take me to grab my angle grinder and plug it in.

Good point. Another reasonable fix would be to mount a few appropriately sized washers inside the quick release nut.
