 1) Why did you buy Rock Racing gear? I didn't realize you wanted to be a doper.
  1. Get your junk under control! Remember that doping often leads to shrunken package. These shorts clearly aren’t designed for that.

  2. Explains why RR has a new kit for every. single. race.

I agree- I only wear De Soto Women’s 400 mile bike shorts. They’re not only durable, but so comfortable!

I am not a doper - yet bought Rock Racing shorts because I liked their wild design.
I too had the fabric deteriorate after wearing for less than 3 months. CHEAP, CHEAP,CHEAP!!!
I wrote to Rock Racing to complain about the fabric - here is their response - LOUSY customer service!
Buy DeSoto - they stand behind their product!

Dear Rock Racing Online Customer,

We apologize for the delay in response.

While talking with our management team, we have come to the
conclusion that the item has been worn too much to exchange or give
store credit. We understand the issue on hand but unfortunately we are

Sugoi RS shorts are better than DeSoto. I was a big 400-mile short supporter until I tried some Sugoi shorts.

UNBELIEVABLE how poorly Rock Racing treats their customers!
Another “cookie cutter” email response.

You must be kidding - what kind of a BS response is this to my last email?
Do you people realize your product is worthless and I have posted the pictures and
description of it’s poor quality on Slowtwitch and Cycling Forum? I am going to post it
on every Triathlon site and Biking site in the US and Canada. NO ONE should have to
pay top dollar for shorts that shred after 10 wearings. And then to add insult to injury
have Rock racing treat you like a complete idiot because you don’t accept their lame
explanation that the shorts have been worn “too much”.
Take me off your mailing list

it’d be nice to actually see what you wrote!! ha ha!

that sucks, but they shorts don’t look real?? sublimation doesn’t wear like that, printed shorts do though! you probably bought fakes. there is a chinese company selling knock offs of everyones shit, especially there’s cause they sell so many.

i have had my rock kits back in feb and they have seen a couple thousand miles, best shorts i ever bought. rock treated me pretty fair, i sent back a pair that had been worn a few times and actually had a stitching flaw. they replaced immediately, i also had my receipt purchasing it from them directly.

if you really bought them legit, send it back, but actually be a normal guy instead of some irritating let me tell the world how bad i was treated. it sucks to spend money and have something bad happen to it, but did you even read the wash/care instructions? ilbeit not. the shorts look like they had been in a dryer to long!

sorry to rag on you, but you did ask for it. there cycling clothing is stil the best, right there with assos. but their graphics are so sick!! have fun! buy real!

Hello, Just curious what makes these shorts so much better than De Soto. I would just like to hear as this is what makes me try harder to improve our products.

Dude, that’s what makes you and your company awesome. You’re constantly seeking to make the consumer happy (or in this case, happier).

You are very kind is saying so, and I do not want you to change your perception of my and my company, but question is not only to make a customer happy, it is so I can make a better product.

I should qualify by saying they are “better for me”. I realize that choosing shorts is a very personal thing.

A couple of things I like about the Sugoi RS shorts.

  1. The padding seems a bit thicker.
  2. They’re a little longer and with the silicone leg gripper they don’t “ride up” my crotch. I found with my 400-Mile shorts that they were riding up into my crotch and causing additional rubbing between my legs.

I love other DeSoto Sports apparel, but I found the Sugoi RS shorts to work better for me on long rides.

This is very helpful and I do have a few responses to your two points.

  1. Have you seen the pad in our 2009 400-Mile Bike Shorts? They are much more dense than the previous years.

  2. With all due respect, if your 400 Mile Shorts were riding up and moving on your legs, it probably means you need to be in a smaller size.

Both are option I am happy to help you work on! If interested, please email me (instead of posting or private messaging).

Not really in defense of the Rock Racing shorts or who made them, just some basic facts:

  • Team kits, and particularly bargain team kits, use a low quality Lycra.

  • The Sublimation process it self, weakens the lycra further

  • Improper washing and tumble dryer use will further shorten the life of such shorts.

So when this happens, and it’s happened to me a few times as well, I am never surprised. The shorts that always hold up the longest are the high end plain shorts( un-sublimated) made by the best manufacturers, using the best fabrics. I note that these higher end fabrics often cannot be sublimated on.

My current gold standard are the Sugoi RS Bib shorts. Comfortable. Well cut using high-grade lycra fabric. If well taken care of, they will last for years!

Gotta say that I’m hooked on the 400 milers. After I snug them in place during the first couple of miles, they don’t move for the duration of the ride. The pad is the perfect combination of rigidity and flexibility, which surprised me more on the run than during the ride. Sugoi makes good stuff, but I wasn’t overly impressed with their “decent” bike shorts. Last year, I bought a pair that was the step below the RS (though I forget the model name). The pad went from sponge cake to pancake within a few weeks, and the leg grippers just sort of peeled away. Fit and compression were good, but the seams were raised enough to chafe. Not a knock on the company, just my limited personal experience. Nonetheless, they were the best I owned until my Desotos.

That may not be true, depending on the person’s build. I find my Forza tri shorts are loose in the legs (and do ride up) but are plenty tight around the waist. I have skinny runner’s legs (6’1", 155lbs, and 34" waist). I don’t have that problem with some other brands. I’m guessing that DeSoto shorts are cut for people with bulkier quads. I don’t usualy have that problem with some other brands.

The materials and workmanship is wonderful, however.

Hey Fleck,

Your input is always worth reading, but not always accurate: but I am not complaining, I just want to know how much I need to pay you for coming to work at De Soto and HJing threads on our behalf!

So with all due respect, your facts are not really facts:

Our custom apparel program (yes we have had one now for 3 years) does not use low quality Lycra, it is the same (as you call it “GOLD STANDARD”) top of line Carrera Skin and Forza Compressor fabric we use on our signature products. Ask anyone who owns ST apparel from 2009.

If you are using good inks with good dye (which is what turns the ink into gas and adheres to the substrate during the heat process), and at the right temps, sublimation has no adverse affect on fabric.

Finally, De Soto sublimated products hold up just as long as nonsublimated…we guarantee it.

Thanks for your very kind words. I would put you in size small based on your description. Also, have you tried our 2009 shorts with the Forza Compressor legband? These two factors (size and legband) may find that issue to be resolved!

Emilio,

I emphasized bargain team kits. As well I am sure that their are people doing sublimating on the cheap as well and not using the best process and materials. No doubt you are wiser, and do not use cheap Lycra, materials or processing for this. I have Stretch Technifine Sugoi shorts that have lasted 5+ years and thousands and thousands of miles of cycling. I have heard similar stories about your top-end cycling shorts as well.

umm, you did not answer one question…
