Bike Shopping Q: Felt vs Quintana Roo

OK…OK…yes I know fit is most important…but assuming fit is roughly same…

With some good sales out there - the 2005 Felt S22…and QR Caliente are close price wise…the Tequilo is about the same as the S25…

I know everyone will yell cervelo – but is there a preference/difference …good or bad…between the QR’s and Felts??

Why should I buy 1 vs the other??

Thanks for helping a painfully slow dude out!

“but assuming fit is roughly same”

It isn’t between Felt and QR- the two are on opposite ends of the fit spectrum. Felt has longish top tubes and QR has shortish top tubes. The differences in the reach will be significant enough to favor one bike for your dimensions over another.

That will be the primary determining factor in the quality of your ownership experience over the entire span of the bike’s life.

Got a long torso? Look at the Felts.

Got a shorter torso? Focus on the QR’s.

Can’t tell? Tell your bike fitter to decide which bike to buy for you, then take their advice and hold them accountable for the decision.

Good luck to you!

What’s the Long/Medium/Short torso cuttoff. I think I qualify for the longer torso. 29" inseam 5’ 7" but not sure. I have the genes for it. Father was 6’2" with a 30-31" inseam. I got all the short genese though.

Come in for a fitting!

Send me a price…and I see if the wife will let me be gone for a weekend…can I bring my bike?

Wait, if you go by there size names they fit differently but if you just take a Caliente 55 and a S22 54 they are very similar.

54 Felt - 54cm top tube, 76 STA, 10 integrated head tube
55 QR - 54cm top tube, 76.5 STA, 11.5 integrated head tube

The biggest difference is in fork rake. Besides that the headtube isn’t a big deal since very few people ride without spacers. The only reason I could see calling them not a like is if they measure differently than their websites states. The same goes for the 57 in the QR, fairly similar to Felt 56 except a half cm in top tube length however the half degree forward the QR just means that once you get both seats pushed up the effective top tube will be the same.

“54 Felt - 54cm top tube, 76 STA, 10 integrated head tube
55 QR - 54cm top tube, 76.5 STA, 11.5 integrated head tube”

just as an exercise, for future reference if not for this person’s purpose, you must also look at seat clamp position. go to my interbike coverage article, and look at the various position pics. specialized changed its effective top tube length by 3cm ONLY by changing its seat clamp positioning on an EXISTING frame. guru did the same.

this is an issue only when the bike has a seat post you can’t change out, which is just about every frame these days above $2000.

Matt, if you decide to make a trip to Tom’s let me know. If you don’t mind a tag-a-long (a tag-a-long that’s willing to split the cost of gas), I’d love to make the trip with you. I have a few things I want to price, and I want to see if there’s a Felt S32 that I can court.

A better comparison would be the 56 Felt to the 55 QR.

“but assuming fit is roughly same” … “It isn’t between Felt and QR”

There is someone on the Earth for whom this is true - that person who is exactly between the two extremes. That is the person the poster was asking about. Hence the “assume.” You would be doing him more of a service to answer his question, not preach about fit, which he made quite clear he understands.

“Can’t tell? Tell your bike fitter to decide which bike to buy for you”

Sort of what he was trying to do. In this case, the bike fitter copped out.

“then take their advice and hold them accountable for the decision.”

You’ve been asked this before - what exactly do you mean when you say hold them accountable?

Sorry to be so direct, but it seems like you just robotically type the same thing to legitimate questions. Actually answering the guy’s question would be more beneficial for all involved. So, pretend he “can’t tell” - which to buy? And, how to hold the fitter accountable?
