Hi,
maybe I will have the opportunity to move from Texas to North Carolina (Chapel Hill area) and because I notice is no so flat as Texas(Houston area) and as more hill , I was thinking if I need to keep my aero setup on my bike or move to more a cycling type position with traditional handle bar.
need you feedback and sugestion
People ride aero all the time here in Chapel Hill. Still, it’s great to have both a road bike and a tri bike here. I ride my Tri bike alone and the road bike when I ride with friends.

I ride my tri bike year round here in the Raleigh area.
I ride a tri and road spring, summer, fall.
Buy a mountain bike and hit Umstead in the winter.
Great to see this thread…I have movers coming next week - leaving El Paso, TX for Durham. Do you all have any other tips or suggestions for riding In that area?
Mapel View Dairy is a popular spot:

Carolina Tarwheels is a good club to hook up with around here. They have a ton of cue sheets online:

Inside Out has a good tri club if you’re interested.
As I said before, Umstead Park in Raleigh has 20+ miles of gravel fire road and MTB trails.
Umstead also hooks up with a trail system at the NC Museum of Art.
Also check out the American Tobacco trail. Starts in Durham/Chapel Hill. At least 25 miles of traffic free path.
Just a few.
If you can’t find somewhere to ride in the Triangle, you aren’t trying real hard.

Do some Strava stalking to get an idea of where people run, bike and swim. Feel free to follow me on Strava to find local routes and people
Awesome, thanks to you both! I can’t wait to get there, it seems like a great area.

Which part of Durham? Tobacco Trail is great, but gets a little dicey as you head downtown. A better bet is to jump on closer to SouthPoint Mall (google Bull City Running and park there). You’ve got a good 10 miles on a paved trail before you hit some country roads - at which point you can go over or all the way around Jordan Lake to get in some rides between 40 and 70 miles. It’s rollers the whole way, but I think you could probably stay aero for all of it (I’m usually on my road bike out there since I’m w/ friends).
Through Chapel Hill to Carrboro is also a good ride - 54 has a lot of cars but a massive shoulder
Welcome to Durham, it’s a great place. I actually live just west of Durham in Hillsborough which is a bit more rural. I came here from Houston via a lengthy stay in Pittsburgh along the way so I’ve seen all sorts of terrain. You can definitely ride your tri bike out here–a group of us will be riding 25 miles tomorrow with a number on tri bikes. There are lots and lots of places where you can do a pretty decent job of escaping traffic. Mid Carolina Multisport Club does a weekly evening ride “in-season” and ad hoc rides once the days get shorter. Feel free to contact me via our website www.midcarolinamultisport.com or our Facebook page www.facebook.com/midcarolinamultisport. We’ll try to get you pointed in the right direction according to your goals and would be glad to have you come out and join us on a ride. Ed Di Gangi
Get here as quick as you can! I lived in the Kingwood area for 11 years and have now been in the Durham area (Hillsborough-just west of Durham and just north of Chapel Hill) for three years and love it. This is a great area in every respect. You won’t have any problems finding places to ride your tri bike (a group of us, many on tri bikes, will be doing 25 miles tomorrow between Hillsborough and Chapel Hill) although you’ll find a ton more hills. We have a really nice multisport club with members from Durham, Hillsborough and Chapel Hill with a very diverse range of members from first time super-sprinters to a couple who just finished the B2B bull two weekends ago. Check us out at www.midcarolinamultisport.com or on Facebook at www.facebook.com/midcarolinamultisport. Feel free to contact me with questions and, if you get up here (hope you do), we’d be happy to have you come out and join us to ride. Ed Di Gangi
There is actually a good group of triathletes from the triangle on the North Carolina forum on Beginner Triathlete. Don’t let the fact that it’s on BT throw you off. There are a lot of experienced folks on there. Good place to ask questions.
