Bike Ride in Atlanta

My wife is doing the Publix Marathon on Sunday and I will be in Atlanta for the weekend. I would like to get in 3 to 4 hrs on the bike Saturday. Does anyone know of any group rides or routes that are worth doing?

Thanks!

Check out peachtree bike and atlanta cycling website. Both have weekend group rides that start from in the city.

Also, there are several places you can go ride on your own that will have tons of cyclists out and about so you won’t be alone.

Silk Sheets (about 30 minutes south of the city) has a 20 and a 30 mile loop. Lots of cyclists. I would google silk sheets.
Cartersville (about 45 minutes north of the city) has a bunch of distances and is my favorite riding destination. They have a 27, a 48, and a 66 mile loop. All are well marked. Google “cartersville bud plant bike routes”. Everyone parks at the budweiser brewery at exit 296 (I think) on i-75 and rides together. Probably 200-300 cyclists per weekend.

east of city, stone mountain park has either 5 or 7.4 mile loops with separate bike lane on portions of the route. i think it is 10 bucks to get into park. it is hilly but you don’t have to contend with tons of traffic unless there is a major event going on. stone mountain park has website with park activities.

Six Flags Ride leaves from Vinning’ Atlanta Cycling shop. Leaves at 10 during March. 40 to 50 miles.

Kennesaw/Beyond Allatoona is a little longer:

Kennesaw/Beyond Allatoona, 9:00 am, 8:00 am starting 5-1. 55 and 75 miles. Training/Strenuous/Not for casual riders. 18 mph average. Rolling terrain from KSU towards Cartersville. One restroom break and one store stop. Take I-75 to exit 271-Chastain Rd. Go west on Chastain Rd approximately 1/4 mile and take a left onto Town Point Dr. Bear right at first intersection and park in Pacesetter Steal parking lot. Thanks Team Pacesetter! From I-75 and 285 expect about a 15 minute drive to the start of the ride. The route is marked with “CW.” 2008 Cue Sheet, 2006 Cue Sheet. 2007 Cut Sheet *2010 Info: Start at 8:30 am beginning Saturday 04/03. It will move to 8 am beginning Saturday 04/24 and will remain an 8 am ride throughout the summer. Regular option now includes a new store stop which lengthens the ride to about 60 miles. Average is between 19 and 20 mph with a few recollects after sprints.

The Tucker Ride is where the serious roadies ride on Saturday about 40 miles at 24+mph.

Best list of rides is at Sadlebred:

Awesome. Thanks everyone for the info.

Gtcbike.org has rides every Sat. Typically 4-10 people, 18 mph or so, 50 -60 miles and good lightly traveled roads. Great group and really nice riding.

Silk Sheets is a great place to ride. However, Sat is also the Union City road race out there. Great race if you are interested.
