Morning all,
I’m planning a 70.3 next year, but it’s not local and traveling with my bike isn’t an option. I’ve seen some companies that do race day bike rental, but wanted to see if anyone here has an experience worth sharing, or a review I might consider. I appreciate any feedback in advance.
Which race are you doing?
Planning on Timberman in September up in NH
.
I’ve rented from Quintanno Roo a couple of times and loved the bike so much I eventually bought one. Also rented from company for Lavaman that I don’t think exits anymore and from a local bike shop in San Diego for Superfrog. Every time I rented I had great experience and it was very easy and fun to try out a new bike.
Availability of rental bikes varies significantly by race, so take the specific race into consideration. If I were in your position, I would contact the rental partners directly and confirm that they will be the partner for 2021 and ask how many bikes they will have available for rental in your size.
I did Timberman this past summer and rented at race site with a company IM partnered with, PlayTri. Worked out great!

This was one company I came across, really glad to see this response. Thank you!
I rented through PlayTri as well for Boulder 70.3. It worked out well, easy pickup and I had sent them the measurements from a recent fitting so they had the bike ready to go. A tech helped me with some minor adjustments and I was happy with the whole experience. They even come take the bike out of transition for you while you’re on the run so it’s a pretty easy exit for you once the race is over. I had a couple questions along the way, as the rental was deferred all the way from Oceanside in April 2020, and I always got a prompt response.

Whichever company is available for your race, check that you’re getting some sort of fitting help on top getting the actual bike. Most likely you’ll end up being able to get a very decent machine, no matter who made it. What will make it possibly great to you is how much they’ll tailor it to your needs. If they’re responsive and helpful on that point it’s a good sign. And vice versa.
Best of luck on your 70.3!
