Bike Rack for Honda Civic Hatchback?

Anyone know of a good bike rack that can hold two, optimally three bike racks for a Honda Civic Hatchback?

Looking to make a 22hr drive to Florida with it, don’t want to lose the bikes!!

Any input appreciated.

You can go to http://www.rackattack.com/ and enter your car’s make, model, year on Yakima’s and Thule’s fit guides (top right part of the screen).

I am also considering one for my Civic Coupe. I found I can save a bit of money with the Rocky Mounts trays they offer on the sight, you can even customize the color.

You might also want to consider a Saris Bones 3 bike rack for the back of your car. I am pretty sure that it would fit a hatchback as I have seen them on SUV’s. You would probably save $300 to $400 on a back of car rack, I think the Bones are the best and simplest to install. Good luck, hope this helps.

Thanks Nujeff,…

I’ll have to look into it.

My last car was a civic hatch ('94 cx) and I used a Saris Bones 2 rack that I got from bicyclebuys.com.

Worked great for the years I had it.

the roof options are just too expensive for the civic hatchback. For me, spending 600+ on a bike rack for a $1000 car wasn’t worth it.

i had a civic with a yakima rack on it.
officially, you’re supposed to put all 4 clamps (or whatever they’re called) in the door wells; but that didn’t work so well. mine was kind of jury-rigged so that the back clamps attached at the rain gutter thing - a piece of black rubber that ran along the top of the side of the car all the way to the rear door.
i didn’t set it up myself; the guy who did had a ton of experience with this stuff. it worked great, took my bikes across teh country that way. it was a 94, don’t know if they still make them the same way. the cars or the racks.

i got a hitch and Performance had a sale on 3 bike racks. had a lock, works great!

Just as a heads up, rack Attack tends to be a bit pricy.

Both Yaris and Thule have great systems and you’ll likely find both available on eBay, so I’d try there for a big $ savings.

Just make sure that the set up is what’s recommended for your car. If you visit Thule’s site, you can enter your make, model and year and it will spit out what you need to look for.

Have a great trip. - Jeff

i used a thule roof rack on my old (1990) crx that worked really well. i was only set up for 2 bikes but there was plenty of room for a third. still have it if you are interested

geoff

I had a 96 civic hatch back with a roof rack before. I will hold 3 bikes but I only had 2. No problems, works well.
I’m on a Mac so I can’t post the image directly.
This is what it look like

Yakima makes a piece that lets you attach four clamps to the door frame of a coupe. I have it setup this way on my civic coupe. It has worked great and will easily fit 3 bikes.
