Look on Facebook marketplace or Craigslist (or Kijiji in Canada) and find a used one from one of the major brands. Bonus points if you can find a Kuot or 1up, but a rack is a rack. I’ve had Thule and Swagman and both did the job.

Get a platform rack and not one that hangs by the frames. Otherwise, any of the big name (Thule, Yakima, Rocky Mounts, 1UP, Kuat) will be perfectly fine.

First time hitch rack buyer recently and I got a kuat Sherpa 2.0, I love it have zero complaints. Sleek secure easy to use.

I have a Kuat NV and a 1up. They both work well, in general I prefer the Kuat for mountain bikes and the 1up for road/tt. The kuat seems to hold somewhat tighter but rubs against the fork slightly and uses a strap to hold down the rear wheel which doesn’t work on a disc wheel and I’m not a fan of with deep carbon. The 1up only touches the tires which doesn’t seem as secure but makes it better for deep/disc wheels.

If money wasn’t a consideration, I would probably get the Kuat piston, but that thing is pricey. Beyond that, any tray style rack is more than sufficient.

Agree with the comments above re contact but regardless a happy Kuat owner. Aesthetically, I also just think the Kuat looks better. 1 Up is very utilitarian and looks like an erector set, but I do like the way it connects only to the tire.

A few more thought: I think some companies still sell try racks that clamp down on the top tube, you don’t want that. It’s not as secure and will scratch.

I also owned a Saris Superclamp rack for years. The fit and finish isn’t up to par with the Kuat but it was sufficient as a rack. I would reccomend a nicer rack but it isn’t necessary.

Kuat definitely looks the best. Although the Yakima StageTwo in that white color looks sweet.

Very happy with Kuat Sherpa–just finished a 5K+ mile road trip with it and two bikes. Easy to put on, take off. Nice feature is that you can tilt it down, even when loaded with bikes, to open hatchback on an SUV. Was able to get it for 20% off during REI member sale.

Kuat NV 2.0 is awesome. I debated for a long time between Kuat and OneUp but I’m very happy with the Kuat. The quality and ease of use are amazing and it has some cool features like separate integrated locks for each bike.

All my bikes have carbon wheels and I’ve had zero issues strapping the rear wheel, although running a disc or very deep rear wheel would be a problem. I think they sell extender straps but I’m not sure how much more that gets you. If you run a disc I’d probably go OneUp.

If using the disc I just throw the wheel in the car and put on a box rim for the rack

The extender will work for a 90, but useless for disc

And actually when I did have a friend transport my bike to the last IM on a 1Up, I still brought the disc in a wheel bag. Seems like a lot of pressure on the wheel/frame going 70+ mph sideways

Just got the Kuat transfer 3 and love it. I got it because it is cheaper (Than the Sherpa) and fits 3 bikes. If you only need 2 bikes and budget is not an issue the Kuat Sherpa looks a little nicer, otherwise the transfer 2 would work great.
