Bike Number Placement - Shiv and Speed Concept

I hate putting stickers on the bike, are there any issues with putting your bike number on the bike boxes of either the Shiv of the Speed Concept or is that not technically part of the frame?

I’ve placed the number on the Speed Concept’s Draft Box (behind the seat post) in two races now, no problem.

When I rode a Speed Concept I always used the Draft box for my race numbers

I have 2, one for my bike and one for the wife’s. They are cheap and work great. Here is the link to the actual website:

Me too. On my SC I tape it on the seat tube, going onto the draft box, with the numbers sideways.

I ride a Shiv and I always cut out the race number and use clear packing tape to put it on my Fuel cell. Works perfectly.

seems like the perfect place.

I cut the number as small as possible and put it on my SC draft box.

The number doesn’t have to be on the frame, just on the bike. Having it on the storage box is fine. For my last race (USAT sanctioned), I had a behind the seat bottle with my flat kit in it, and wrapped the number around the cage. Other times, I’ve cut the number down and used clear packing tape to attach it to the downtube (leaving the backing for the number on so the goo doesn’t get all over the frame).

Lots of folks using the SC put the number on the draft box

This. Cut the number the appropriate size and have it fit the draft box on both sides.

Wow, I just looked at the price on their website and I got mine at Challenge New Albany last year for $6.99. We actually got one in our race packets with the numbers already on but I got another just in case.

+1 on this as well.

Also on the SC Draft Box…I just got a new one with a lid that secures well…but I had an older one that the lid kept popping off…I usually put a little bit of the number over the lid too to prevent from popping off during race. Only thing I keep in my draft box is my spares and CO2…so unless problems no need to open.

I was struggling with my number placement on my Felt bike. The price seems excessive. Any DIY methods?

Buy a Trek. Just kidding, you can do basically the same thing as this tag with a piece of plastic and cable ties. If you have any extra rubber from a cadence/speed sensor mount or just a piece of rubber about a 1/2" thick, then put a slot through for the plastic tag and run holes through both the rubber and the plastic and connect using the cable ties. I have an old piece of rubber from a Garmin Cadence/Speed sensor mount that would work perfectly if I would have thought of the idea first. I really like the set up though with the V-tag.

LOL! Classic triathlete response. I walk into transition in the morning pushing or carrying $8000 plus of equipment and there is no way I’m giving $15 to a couple of guys that came up with a cleaver way to mount the number on my bike.

I’ve glued two thin and small metal sheets, doing an Y figure, and then used a old tube to encase it. Haven’t tried, but I think the tin from a drink can might work.
After this, I’ve made 2 small holes, one to hold the number using a small screw and another one for the ziptie to go trough the seatpost.

I’m away from my dear (bike) for the week, but I could take some pictures over the weekend if you want to.

PS: I’m not sure if my DIY explanation is clear enough since English is not my first language and I struggle a bit more on detailed descriptions

I’m an economist. The cost of the bike is irrelevant to value of the mount. MB vs. MC.
