I am, flying in 9 days with carbon tri bike and Scicon bag. Just saw underbuttr post on Instagram flying with a Scicon bag and cracked the seat stay all the way through which has me scared! Does anyone here feel comfortable flying with the Scicon bag? And anyone get insurance through something like Velosurance to protect against the financial loss?
Have seen a few broken bikes due to soft cases lately. I’d never do it myself. Hard case for sure.
If it is the Scicon bag that you don’t remove you handlebar base then there is a good chance you will have your handlebars broken. First thing that snaps when they throw and compress your bag. Seen several pro’s amongst others even post that over the years.
Flew many many times with a Scicon bag without any issues and wouldn’t hesitate to do so again. I don’t own one anymore simply because I don’t travel by air with a bike anymore.
I just posted a thread looking for bike bag recommendations myself. Now I see this thread! Sorry if my doubling up on this topic is annoying!

I now use hard cases as sooooo many storysof broken bikes with the scicon nowadays . it’s bound to happen at some point as bags get thrown around way more than years ago
Lots more broken bikes
Hard case all the way and just as easy to pack if u know how
I have flown 10-12 times with Scicon and had zero issues. I do remove aerobars as a precaution…
In my experience, the only damage I’ve had flying was the result of TSA opening up the bag and not putting it back together the same way. Resulted in a punctured disc. This was with a hard case…
In the Scicon the wheels are in their own pockets which reduces the chance of that happening.
Very pleased with this bag.
I had the scicon bag once and was slightly scared because it felt like insufficient protection. And in fact, the handlebar apparently had been turned a bit during handling and the fork locking thing bent (item was replaced for free by Scicon, bike fortunately was fine).
So given my bad feeling and this incident, i immediately sold the bag afterwards.
I think it’s okay if you add additional cushioninig (especially around the handlebars).
Ultimately i bought the Evoc Bike Bag Pro which i consider the superior, more sturdy solution.
