Bike in a Ford Focus hatch

I’m thinking of buying a Ford Focus hatchback, and I’m wondering if anyone here has experience of fitting a tri bike in the back of one?

I have a focus ST and put my road bike in it 5 days a week. I’ve have a rack that I’ve been meaning to install but haven’t out of laziness. You’ll have no issues with a tri/tt bike either.

I have an 06 hatch. Easy as pie. Remove rear wheel and a bike slides right in with the seats down. Pack gear around bike as needed and your set.

I have hauled a 17.5 inch 29er in the back of my Focus St. All we did was pop off the front wheel. I wouldn’t want to do it all the time. That is why I bought a hitch for the bike rack. Don’t really want my dirty MTB in my St. But that’s just me.

Had a 54cm P3 and a 56cm road bike in mine without front wheels. The aero bars were extending to the headrests of the front seats, but no issue with fit.

Sold! Thanks folks, that’s reassuring. It’s a 54cm P2 going in the back of an SE, but sounds like it will go. Cool.

When I was shopping for a new car, I took my bike along to make sure it fit into the back. It fit in all but one.

I’ve known people to actually test drive the car all the way back home just to see if a bike would fit the way they wanted. Priorities, you know. ;D

I can relatively easy (well quickly) get my road bike or TT bike in the back of a 206 (both wheels of on the TT an only the front off on the road) and I can’t in any way see that a Focus is any smaller

If that helps…

The old ones (2001-2008) were tiny but tall. Back then I had no issues fitting a 56 with (split) rear seat down.
I loved that car.

The new ones are bigger (wider) but the passenger compartment is also significantly less high.

Remember the disappointment when Ford killed it.
This was the car the Honda Fit was modeled after but unfortunately didn’t quite measure up.

W ll it fit rear wheel in first? I just bought a SE hatchback 2014 Focus. Love the car. Haven’t put a bike in it yet. Don’t see a reason why it wouldn’t fit. The one pain is the rear seat headrests have to be removed to fold the seat backs down. Google your question. There are a lot of replys with pictures.

I do it often… 06 Wagon. I take the wheel off though. Darn child safety seats.

Yeah, I guess so. I usually put fork in first because it’s easier to hold, but I don’t see why it wouldn’t go the other way.

Yeah, I don’t like having to take the headrests out either. Stupid design.

I can put my bike in the back of my 2007 ZX5 without taking the front wheel off.

I can put two of my bikes in the back seat with the front wheels off.

Of course my bikes are really small too.

I drive a Fiat 500 and can fit a 56cm TT bike in the back with the back seats folded down. I can’t imagine you’d have trouble fitting on in a Ford Focus.

I rented a 500 once, and to fit my 56 S5 in the back, it required removing BOTH wheels. Just thought I’d point that out

BTW, when I arrived at my destination, I parked next to a Sprinter van with the rear doors open…I’m pretty sure the 500 would actually have fit in the back of that if there had been a loading ramp

I’ve got a 56 P5 and it fits with only the front wheel removed. Awkward as hell getting it in but it fits!

Might be a function of saddle height…but yeah, even with both wheels removed I thought it was a tight fit.

Same with me, I can put either of my bikes in my three door Golf GTI without taking the wheels off. My bikes are also really small.
