I can get a good deal on a 2011 P3 and a trek Speed concept 7.8. Which would you choose if they were the same price ?
if the fit is the same I’d get the speed concept, in my opinion things it has that the P3 doesn’t;
-Hidden rear brake
-better cable routing
-duotrap
-draft box
-race ready wheels
These are the little things that start to separate the competition.
I’ve owned a P3. I currently own a Speed Concept. If you fit the P3 (rather long and low) and especially if you do any of your own work on your bikes, the P3 is the WAY better choice. It has a remarkable pedigree and innumerable race victories. It was the standard before the so-called “super bikes” came along … and the Speed Concept 7 series hardly qualifies as a “super bike.”
So now you’ve got two opposing opinions. Helpful, eh?
.
if you can ride them, do that first. If you don’t notice a difference, I would choose the P3. Completely personal decision. If the ‘race’ wheels are legit, maybe that’d influence me to go to Trek.
Size and fit…I agree it’s best to ride them and get “pre” fit on each. You’ll know the one after spending a bit of time on each.
