After a few weeks of lower back and lower leg issues stemming from changes to cranks (compacts), pedals (from SPD to Look), and shoes (Specialized road to Sidi tri), I officially need to get re-fit.
Anyone know of bike fitters in the SF East Bay? I live in Danville, so Walnut Creek to Livermore are convenient, Oakland and SF less so.
I’d prefer not to spend a fortune, but I’ve got to get the fit fixed because it’s trashing my biking and my running.
I know sports basement in Walnut Creek got a fit bike earlier this year, and I think the older guy who does the fittings is here on ST. I know he has been F.I.S.T certified. I am not sure what is costs, but everything at sports basement seems to be pretty reasonable…
I can also suggest Paul Kundrat (www.fitsbypaul.com; 510-229-7415). I’ve worked with Paul and have been pleased with the results. The site has a road bike emphasis but he has some very accomplished tri clients.
Both Bob (older guy) and the shop manager Gino @ Sports Basement in Walnut Creek are FIST certified. They have been fitting a lot of folks over the past 6 months and have really dialed in their method so you won’t be a test model. Let me know when you are ready for a graduated threshold test on the bike, My wife and I have a side business in coaching and testing in Walnut Creek.
Make the drive to Davis and go see Joe Santos at Wheelworks. Worth the trip – not only is he a great fitter but also works with the USA Triathlon elite team.

Standard to compact cranks shouldn’t affect anything unless you also changed crank lengths or your new cranks have a different Q-factor.
