Bike Fitters! Felt Frame Size - Purchasing Help

I ride a Large Argon 18 E-119, and it fits very well. I’m planning to buy a Felt IA Advanced (not the 2.0) but can’t get in for a pre-fit. I do, however, have my fit measurements attached. I used Felt’s measuring tool in excel and I think it was recommending the 56 over 58, but I would love some professional guidance because it seems that the measurements of my current Argon fit right in the middle of the 56 and 58 and closer to the 56…

Thanks in advance for any help!

Back pad x of 494 probably isn’t achievable on the 56, and the 58 will be a better choice regardless. Buy the longest bike you can that is still low enough, within reason.

Saddle height that high means you are almost certainly a 58. That said, do you have any pictures from your fit? Measurements are mostly useless without seeing how you actually look on the bike.

Here you go. I’m on a 155 crank in the pictures but not sure I’m going to stick with that going forward. Either 165 or might just try the 172.5 that comes with the bike.

That Argon is a size smaller than I’d prefer. I’d like to see a picture with your leg extension, but I can say I’d pull the saddle forward a cm or so.

Your fit is in the neighborhood, though, so your numbers are definitely useful for figuring out bike size.

Thanks for looking. So you’re still strongly in the 58 camp for the felt?

Again, really appreciate the help.

I don’t know if Felt is still stocking those awful, cheap, Pygmy extensions or not. Plan on getting new extensions with better ergonomics and more length. The bars and extensions on the IA were a pain in the ass back in the day.

I don’t even know what their stock is but I’m pretty happy with aerocoach and will likely buy their extensions and re-use my cups/pads from them.

I going to try to piggyback on this thread. I plugged my fit numbers (attached) into Felt’s fit calculator, and it spit out size 51 frame, but I’m over 6 feet tall and am currently on a 56. That seemed weird to me. Does that pass the sniff test?

You need a new fit. That 12 cm saddle setback is nuts. Pictures would help, too.

Are these fitters not giving you guys fit pictures in their Retul report? Retul literally builds it in and makes it easy. It is an essential part of a fit report.

I’ve heard good things about this fitter, which makes me curious how they landed on a road bike set back on a P4. That’s really weird.

The rider is on a Fizik, so this could be that rare rider that sits really, really steep relative to the saddle. A picture would confirm whether that’s the case or not. But if I’m just analyzing that geometry file, I’d say the fit is poor.

Hmm, I don’t have pics from the followup visit that those numbers are from. I do have pics from the initial visit, but the numbers changed after the followup. The best I’ve got right now are some FinisherPix side shots (taken from here: https://www.finisherpix.com/en/photos/5047/1608).

Glad to see I’m not the only EMJ guy in a panic trying to fill out that size form!

Those pics look solid. What was changed?

Sorry, don’t think I was clear. The fit numbers that I attached above are for the position in those finisherpix pics. That’s the position with the 12cm of setback. I have a really long torso compared to my height/leg length–maybe that causes funky numbers?

What was changed from my initial visit is I didn’t sit on my saddle during the fit process in the way that I normally do when I ride outside, so I ended up sliding and hopping around on the saddle. That was fixed on the followup visit.

The position looks good. That’s the point I was making. I still don’t think “long torso” accounts for a 12 cm setback, but since your position is good I’m not inclined to do much a deep dive to try and figure it out one way or another. Sounds to me like an IA just isn’t the right bike for you.

And in the future, everyone - demand fit photos along with your bike measurements!!!

When I was fitting i had a competitor who never provided fit photos because their fits SUCKED. So I’m biased to assume fits without photos are from fitters who don’t like having their work scrutinized.
