Long story, so I won’t go into the details…can someone tell me the approximate chance in knee ange (degrees)…If you drop the seat by 1.5 cm…Is this enough of a change to even tell a difference?
isnt that like only 1/2 the story? if you have short legs a drop of that height will change your knee angle more than if you have very long legs.
1.5cm is MASSIVE. That’s like 5deg (obviously depends on leg length). If you don’t notice 1.5cm, you have serious problems. I’ve found people are sensitive to about 1.5mm. If you change my saddle height by 1.5mm, I’d know. 1.5cm? I’d swear it was a different bike.
35 in inseam…
Rapp…thanks for the reply…disreagard inseam measurement…This is what I thought, but then someone suggested if you had 2 of the same bikes set up with a 1.5 cm diff. I wouldn’t be able to tell the difference…I told them I could tell if it was less…they tried to tell me it was all in my head…The long story short is LBS wan’t very accurate when working on my bike…
Not that you need any more verification that Rapps, but good grief dude 1.5cm is a ton. Your LBS sounds like mine down the street. I watched their ‘fitter’ size a guy up for a Felt DA a couple of years ago by having hit straddle the top tube and check for the distance from his nuts to tube. I wanted to pull the poor chap aside and send him across the bay to the only good shop in the area, but didn’t. Sigh.
My tape measure with bending and whatnot…guessing it’s good to about 2mm of accuracy. I can tell 2mm. Heck I change it depending on which set of bibs I’m wearing, no kidding.

+1 I can notice a 2mm change.
As mentioned, it depends on your current seat height, upper and lower leg length proportions, and how you may compensate (ex. changing your ankle angle to adapt). The best way to see the change would be to use a camera to take video of each and measure the angles from that (lots of computer freeware available).
Schwingggg.
I have often wondered about this. Can you recommend any freeware for a Mac dork? Might be a fun rainy day thing…thanks. Not even sure what I would classify the software as: angle finder thingy?

I’m a PC guy, but here’s a short thread on the Mac side of the topic: http://forum.slowtwitch.com/gforum.cgi?post=3214170;search_string=software%20mac%20angle;#3214170
I looked on Download.com, and nothing free for Mac there (no surprise).
