So im looking for some advice on which are the best combo. For the last couple of years i have used my iphone mounted between the aero bars for distance tracking etc, and am lookig to jump to my first IM in Louisville this coming year and need to get a HRM. I would like to have a computer that will work with a chest strap and that also allows me to use with a wrist watch on the run. Im not a huge fan of trying to read a watch in the TT bars and would like to see HR on the computer.
I used a Garmin 910Xt with a Node 1.1 head last yr. Worked great the Node 1.1 reads ant+ for HR cadence speed and power. Its small and light weight. I just up graded to the Edge 510. If you already have the watch with HR and its ANT+, Im looking to sell my node 1.1. I have the profile design short mount to put it out on the aero bars as well. DM me if your interested.

Hmmm…I need more info here. If you haven’t been tracking heart rate until now, it seems like you may or may not have been recording the data for post-ride analysis. Is that the case, and will it continue to be true? That is, do you upload your workouts to, say TrainingPeaks, to track your metrics? If you don’t need to record the data, then you could get away with a simple ANT+ capable bike computer, such as the Bontrager Node (~$70). If you want to record everything, the options are much more complicated, and usually more expensive.
One other alternative to consider might be wearing a GPS watch, but on the inside of your wrist so that viewing it while in aero is much simpler (and doesn’t involve moving your head or hands really).
Gilly
Like others have said, get something that communicates via ANT+ then it will work with any ANT+ running watch. I have a Garmin watch and Garmin bike computer that both receive signals from my HR strap and cadence sensor.
It was not my intent to upload anything for post ride/run evaluation. I have been looking around at theroptions and ill prolly go with a garmin combo that is compatible with a watch. My main goal was strictly train/race based on heart rate so ill prolly go the cheaper route.
