Bike brands for long torso/short legs

I have a build similar to Michael Phelps, tall with long torso and short legs. I saw on another thread that Cervelo is a good brand for folks with my build. I’m curious to hear what other brands also are better for this body type. I used to ride Cannondale tri-bikes but never felt very comfortable on them. Now I ride a Jamis, no complaints except that it’s a heavy frame.

So, for long torso/short legs, I have:
Cannondale - NO
Cervelo - YES
Jamis - YES
Any other brands for my build type?

What are chorts?

Compact frameset geometry typically offers longer top tubes head tubes and l, like you, have longer torso dimensions than my inseam and have found Giants for the road but when it comes to tri/tt, I only have experience with the older ‘TCR Trinity’ and cannot say for certain about the new Trinity Advanced SL because these are currently in very, very short supply.

Oops, thanks for the check, spelling is not my strong suit.

Wouldn’t all bikes be a good fit because all you need to do is lower the seat.

Slowman has written extensively on this subject, here is an excerpt from a recent piece on the TTX 9.5:

As you might know, we like to pigeonhole tri bikes into two geometric categories: long-and-low; and narrow-and-tall. Cervelos, Felts, QR’s CD0.1 and Tequilo, Kestrel’s Airfoil Pro, Kuota’s Kueen K, Ridley and others make bikes that are moderately or very long-and-low. If you ride steep, and you’re of average morphology, these bikes will fit you well. Cannondale’s Slice, Scott’s Plasma, and others tend to be toward the narrow/tall end. Those who ride slightly less steep, and are perhaps longer of leg (as opposed to longer of torso), will find these bikes geometrically appealing. Where is the Equinox TTX along this gradient? In general, these bikes fall into the narrow/tall column, but, the degree to which this is the case depends on the size.

How have you determined that you have this body type? Is there a ratio of measurements you are going by?

I’m 6’3" with a 32" inseam. so yes I’m pretty sure that’s my body type.

I was just curious as I have been told I have the same body type. I am also 6’3", but with a 36" inseam. All the measuring I did pointed to a 58cm frame, with a shorter stack and longer reach. I went with Cervelo, and although I haven’t had a chance to ride the bike outside yet, I am fairly comfortable on it on the trainer so far.

That’s interesting - I used to use a 60 in Cannondale (which never really seemed to fit right) and now go with a 58 in Jamis (which fits much better). Of course, getting JT Lyons to do the bike fitting might have a lot to do with it.

if your legs are so short, shouldn’t your screen name be Little Steps?

I am 6’3-3/4" with a 32 or 33 inseam. My torso is so long that most of my t-shirts are too short. Some don’t even touch my belt (so they are of course discarded…). When measured and fitted, I was told that by LEG length, I should be on a 56 cm road bike.

I am riding a 58 cm Look 576. I do not ride low (I’m not that flexible) but it’s comfortable. I’ve almost always ridden a compact geometry road frame and stepped up a size. The compact sizing allows me to get the drop right but by stepping up a size, I get the longer top tube.

Good luck.

I have a similar build and after much shopping around I ordered a Serotta steel CXII. It fits me very well and I can stay in the aero bars for hours.
