I was watching the Today show on NBC this morning and I couldn’t help but notice this guy Dane (He is/was one the the Biggest Loser contestants) was lying about how he finish the marathon. Basically the producers of the show helped him cross the finish line by giving him a car ride. Then they took pictures of him at the finish line wearing the medal etc.
Essentially he claims that he ran 23 miles on 3:53 but he was afraid that he wouldn’t make the cutoff time of 6 hours, so he took a car ride from somebody (some show staff member) and popped up near the finish line.
If he made it to mile 23 on his own, why was he afraid of not being able to finish on time (6 hour cutoff)?.. He could have even walked the rest of it with plenty of time… He actually never claimed he was feeling sick, dehydrated or hurt. Do you think he is lying? I saw a video of him running and he looked like he was running a 10:30-11:00 pace… so no way he was at mile 23 on 3:53.
Other than that I’ll give the guy credit as he’s lost 145 pounds since he joined the show… but no need to lie about the marathon thing. The fact that he tried was enough.
Some independant parties say they were with him through mile 17 (Which, to his credit, he apparently jogged the whole way)
at which point a van picked them up.
They have claimed, during one of their stages of lie adjustment, that the van brought them from 17 to 23 in order to stay on schedule with the filming. Of course they are moronic lying douchebags so that van might have brought them all the way to the finish, who knows.

Let me make sure I understand this. Are you saying that even today (3/3), after all of the controversy and disputes, he STILL claims that he ran the marathon? I know he went back and ran the miles he was driven, but it is still a DNF.
OK, I wondered if his time was actually for a **half **marathon! I thought he was running at approx 13 mins miles - please don’t ask how I know what that looks like…
What’s funny is that I think everyone would have respected him just fine had he finished in 8 hours and not gotten a medal, but finished on his own no matter what.
The show was much better when it was just about weight loss and not about fabricating stories for what they accomplish or hope to accomplish in the future. Tell me how much you lost and leave it at that. The side stories don’t inspire when they turn out to be lies, inspiration comes from the truth.

Do you really believe that? Really?
Although he has mangled the truth concerning the marathon, I have no reason to think he didn’t run the last miles. In his mind he would then believe that he ran the whole thing, as evident in the Today Show interview. Of course, we know differently.
i was thinking the same thing, and why everyone gets their panties in such a bunch over nonsense like this. do the concerned posters race slower or something, due to all this ‘controversy’ and inaccurate statements?
well, speaking for myself anyway, its just hilarious when people will lie about crap like this

I am close to having lost 100 pounds since last April, and by time I run my first marathon in October, I can promise you that I’ll be running it. I would get no sense of accomplishment if I got a ride to the end.
