Has anybody done the Big O half in Olathe? Any race reports on this one? The website doesn’t have any accomodations listed. Any suggestions on hotels near Lake Olathe?
Never done it, but why are you doing that when IM 70.3 KS is a month later?
Because I am doing IMCDA in June and a HIM the week before is probably not a good idea…but one 6 weeks out would work well for a tune up.
I think last year was their first year and the half was called off mid-race for a thunderstorm. I wasn’t there but a search on this site may bring up some reports.

Why do the IM 70.3 KS when the big O is a month earlier?
Not all of us go for the show.
Weather last year did stop the race in the bike section (so there won’t be any results)…If you look at the distances it is slightly less than a 70.3, BUT, if you want to do it purely as a catered training day, then that’s probably worth it. Since it’s probably close to your home (based on your name). I would suspect though with the IM KS 70.3, the Big O will probably be a small race. Good Luck
I was thinking about doing this one… but was put off after searching on here revealed the organisers were pretty disorganized and arsey.
I however, do go for the big show. I want that IM branded shirt and hat so I can wear it every day, so everyone knows how much of a bad ass I am (because if they see IM they will ignore the fact that it was only a 70.3 and think I am that much more of a bad ass.) haha
No, really the reasonI said that was more for the bang for the buck. The Big O, as I have heard and as the previous poster said is not organized very well, whereas IM70.3KS will be organized well. Plus the bigger races attract the larger crowds, thus the atmosphere is more exciting. Just my two cents, and to each his own.
