I once spent several days camping on a beach in a very quite valley on the big Island.
For several of those days the beach was completely isolated (except for me and my kids).
We ate wild tropical fruit. We swam in huge waterfalls. We watched huge waves break off shore.
I spent almost nothing for this experience!
The only downside was that occassionally there were annoying helicopters that would fly over head.
One the other hand…
Somewhere else on the Island- there were people spending $500 a night to stay in crappy condos, with a view of other condos.
The same people also paid $1,000+ to fly in a helicopter to look at waterfalls and private valleys from a distance.
The same waterfall and valleys that were all mine for the previous 23 hrs and 50 minutes of every day.
Personally, I wouldn’t make a big deal over my accomodations.
Lol I’d do that but my friend however, a bit of a weenie. I am not hurting for the difference however I can imagine there are many who have saved for years only to get screwed over like this and maybe end up not being able to go. For a family this place is a good budget.
The honorable side of me says this is not okay, and find it a very selfish act. But yeah there are those types in the world. She would probably cut courses too.
Yep, I did lose my mountain bike time tho scrambling to get a new rental. Last seven months most stressful in my life and I need this. Friend had to find someone to take her several clients too. So it is really no small chore to get this all put together only to have to revisit.
I would look at the fine print or contract details between you and the booking company.
If there are no clauses allowing them to back out of the deal, I would argue they owe you something at the like kind and price based upon your agreement with them.
Argument being you had a contract with them and they are breaching it. You want them to follow through with the contract and are seeking specific performance of the terms of your deal. Assuming your deal is spelled out in your agreement.
I’ll check. Issue over there is many rentals were illegal and this was probably one. So why the agency doesn’t verify, I guess money. Locals say they haven’t figured out the fallout yet or how things will be enforced. I expect prices for hotels and other rentals to go up because there will be fewer, and add in the extra taxes that were passed. I’m that case I may have to buy when I retire.

Not sure what you mean by illegal, but if so, then your are probably out of luck. Don’t think the phrase, “this rental was illegal” would go over well in Court.
Oh I’m not saying that. But check the news over there, many condos and homes were not legal rentals and the agencies do not ask. So maybe the person did not want to get caught. I won’t be using this agency again.
