Has anyone else seen this? I just got my issue and its titled “The Sex Issue” articles include sex vs cycling, better in the sack (15 ways cycling makes you a better lover), hot parts, body by bike, the hard truth, rules of attration, who has a better chance of finding a cycling mate?
Yes, and I think they have been hanging with their buds from Men’s Health too much lately. IMHO, when they start doing that stuff, it’s because they are running out of ideas. But then, like my wife says, if I wanted porn, I’d buy porn. But I buy Bicycling, so what does that tell you about me?
Yes, I did see it. We received it about 2 weeks ago. The next day we called Bicycling to discontinue carrying Bicycling in our store.
The “sex issue” was really the last straw; the content of the magazine was pretty marginal anyway, but I felt we had to have something for our cyclists, so Bicycling it was. They’d ship me 10, I’d sell 3, and return the other 7 for credit.
With this issue we couldn’t display it in the store – placing that cover near our checkout counter changed the whole ambiance of the store, and I’m very conscious of the way people feel when they come in. Bicycling clearly isn’t as conscious about their brand, so I’m not going to carry them anymore.
Can anyone suggest an alternative cycling magazine that has a higher content level? Consider: our customers are casual athletes, not hardcore cyclists, and about 2/3 of our customers are women.
