Bicycle shopping in Charlottesville, Virginia

OK, I know there are 100s of threads about getting fitted before you buy the “wrong” bicycle. What do you do when none of the LBSs carry tri bikes. The thought of driving 3 hours in DC traffic to get measures and try out bikes and then again to pick it up (if I can find one), seems a bit much. Can I get measured by my LBS and then use these sizes to look for the “right” bicycle?
Thanks,

Why not go down the road to Richmond and get fitted there? There’s a tri shop called 3sports that has excellent service and is triathlon specific. Probably one of the best shops in the country for triathletes.

I really like that shop and bought my Waterford there. I just hate not to support a vendor in town, if it can be avoided. I felt guilty about the Waterford for months.

I know the feeling. I don’t know of any shop in C-ville but Performance and they aren’t tri specific or even “local”.

I made a couple of 2 hour trips to Tom Ds shop to buy my tribike. I recently bought my roadbike in town from a local shop. Very disappointing experience compared to a shop that knows how to fit a bike. Make the drive or you will be more sorry than you were with the Waterford.

Cville Bike and Tri–they are not FIST fitters, but competent folks nonetheless. The wrench there is former VA TT state champ, and knows a thing or two about bike fit. I’m not sure if they are the place for tri bikes, but you could check them out anyway.
