A new website has come out, not sure if it has been brought up here on ST. I thought it was interesting and has some potential, but looks like it has a way to go before it can be truly effective, some decent deals and some not so decent deals already.
Has anyone checked out this website yet? Do you agree or disagree with the pricing accuracy? Do you think the shipping price is fair? Thoughts?
I’ve looked through the site before, and was very interested to see how the price estimates worked. In general, I thought that the price estimates were actually pretty low. Specifically, when comparing bike values to those selling onebay, craigslist, and other online sites… BBB definitely takes it a step further than Bikepedia, because it lists todays bike value, not the MSRP from years ago. I think the site has great potential, and am interested to see how well it develops. I’ve always found it hard to value a used bike, especially “old school” bikes with threaded stems and down-tube shifters.
This past summer I found a 2012 Felt 16 on CL in DC that had <300 miles on it. The guy was a roadie and bought it to do a couple of tri’s and lost interest in it, sold it to me for a great price. A friend was coming to visit and brought it down for me. I resold it on CL locally for $40 more than what the site says an excellent condition B16 should go for.
Checked my old S22 that sits on the trainer, its at least $200 high IMHO. The high end bikes look to be over valued too.
I think it’s interesting that most people think that the prices are high. In there item descriptions for what is “excellent” and such it would seem to me at least for 2012 or 2013 bikes that would require almost no effort on upkeep and cost significantly less than I’d imagine (but I am also a cheepo college student, so anything priced a few hundred bucks lower than retail and I’d be happy).
Also that the bike would be reinspected by a “professional” once at a shop, so I am not sure if the listed qualities are correct.
