Bianchi Veloce versus Lemond Sarthe

Fit aside, anyone have any opinions on the 2005 Lemond Sarthe versus the 2005 Bianchi Veloce?

Both are steel frame, both are by-and-large outfitted with Campy Veloce. Bianchi has a ‘purer’ Campy group, Lemond has a little more lightweight stuff on it (carbon seat post). Bianchi has a steeper seattube (75 versus 73.5), but only comes (stock) in a triple. Both are around $1500.

Anyone care to weigh in?

I would say the most important thing would be the Race XLite wheels that come with the LeMond. They are great wheels, and will have a very postive effect on the way the bike performs.
At $1499.99 for the double, it’s a steal!

are you kidding me? get the bianchi! upgrade your post and you’ll have yourself a dream boat.

of course, I’m the proud owner of a Bianchi EV Boron Centuar…so…guess I’m biased.

My Veloce is a couple years older (2002), and the parts are still stock, except tires and pedals. It’s so smooth it’s not even fair!!! Never had a single problem, EXCEPT - downhills over 30 MPH it shakes a little. NO, it’s not me shaking!!! If I grip the crossbar with my knees downhill it helps it. Great value, very nice ride. But mine came with double chainring.

Go Euro…the LeMond has been tainted by Trek.

One more thing - if you get a Bianchi you must get celeste color. Non of this orange jive.

I have a used 56cm steel frame if you do not want to spring for a new one - its a 98 but only has about 7K miles.

ah, yeah! The celeste is awesome. I had a guy ride up to me and ask, “How’s the Bianchi today?” When people see it they know. It’s very special (gush, gush, gush)

And those who are real manly wear matching celeste shorts!!

If LeMond has been tainted by Trek then Bianchi has been tainted by sourcing bikes from Taiwan. If anything Trek REVIVED LeMond. There would be no spine bikes, or any of the new carbon rear triangle road bikes without Trek.
The Bianchi uses Reynolds 631 and the LeMond uses True Temper OX Platinum. Better tubeset, better wheels, damn near Moltini orange and made in the good ole USA!
Trek wins…again.

Your bike shouldn’t be shaking at 30mph. You should have your LBS check it out. Hopefully, it’s just your wheels out of true or a rear dropout alignment issue, and not a bent frame.
