This year 90% of my training buddies are training inside of their homes. From going on group rides of 15 cyclists, it is now down to like 3.
After some unfortunate bike vs car accidents, even hit and runs, some of which i was present to see myself, most of the group invested in tacx traners or similar and now ride in the safety of their homes. This makes for small and non challenging or fun group rides. I was hit by a car two years ago as well, pretty bad but i recovered from the injuries, and got over the fear of riding on the road as well. So I still go out, ride aware, but not paranoid. So im good. But I miss the group thing, you know? Some really had bad experiences, so I do understand their reasons.
As a solution I have suggested to organise group rides at their homes. I live on a relatively small tropical island with sweet weather and never put my bike in the car to go ride anywhere. I even ride to all the races, it’s my warm up.
I also plan to ride to the places where we will do the stationary group rides, and want to take my rollers with me on my bike. I have Jet Black R1 aluminium rollers. They are not super heavy but do weigh some. Whats the best way to carry them on my bike, Im thinking strap them to a backpack or someting similar.
Any ideas are more than welcome. Daniel.
Could you leave them at the friend’s place where the majority of the group indoor riding will happen and if at another location can the friend drive them over?
Yes I thought of this, but I use them almost every morning before work and sometimes late at night squeezing in an hour here and there any time i have a chance. I could try to drop it the evening before although id still want to know if anyone tried carrying those things on their back.
Tacx has a carrying bag for people who bring their antares to the track, https://www.tacx.com/en/products/trainers/antares/accessories-antares
Im gonna think of something, modify something, and post it here. Keep the ideas coming for makeshift solutions.
Trailer? Just a schwinn kids trailer would haul whatever you want.
Actually if your bike is the primary transportion for you, there’s these too. A little easier to haul. I think a cooler will fit in there too. Start doing your grocery shopping with it.

I too vote for the trailer option.
The only question is the two wheeled trailer or the single wheeled. A single wheeled one would be easier to use and get around with. A two wheeled with the canopy attached could be viewed as carrying a kid so you may get some slack from the cars.
Either way you could then use the trailer for other uses as well.
If you don’t care about how fast you ride, the big trailers for carrying kids are awesome. I have one that we take to the beach and carry everything between the house and the water rather than having to deal with the car. It can fit tons of stuff, so a set of rollers would be no big deal.
Honestly, if drivers are so bad where you live that they have run over almost everyone you ride with, including yourself, I would probably ride exclusively indoors as well. That sounds awful.

Lol ok, I may have made it sound like there is super dangerous traffic here. But i bet its about the same as where you live, except most roads here have no space for cyclists and drivers are taking forever to get used to sharing the road with bikes. No cycling paths, poor driving skills and smart phones dont help either.
But i ride outside 2-3 times a week. I rode fixed gear on the road today. So its totally doable. Of the group about 4-5 had bike vs car related accidents. One was a hit and run, some others crashed on oily roads. Boat trailers drip allot of oil on the roads along the beaches. And the others seem to have second hand fear and money to spare (good trainers aint cheap) I mean, there are a bunch of people in here who have crashed or been in accidents, you just gotta process it and eventually get back out there i think. I love cycling and even though effective, bikes just dont belong inside on rollers or clamped in trainers. I starts feeling like their just training on bikes to ride closed circuit races. Like they dont like cycling, but just do it because its part of triathlon. I think they miss out on the beauty of cycling. So im gonna keep cycling outside for now.
I will check out the trailer option, but as mentioned with the traffic, i think it will be hard to ride on the road with one because of the width. Most roads dont allow for that meter and a half i see on facebook posts. More like a meter tops. Cool trailers though. Daniel.
My vote is backpack. Might take a time or two to get all the straps and rigging figured out but it should work.
Make or have made a canvas bag and then add a few straps to it.
