I FedX-ed (cardboard bike box) my P4 for my first race of the season a few days ago and this is how my downtube looked upon unpacking. The downtube had plenty of bubblewrap around it so I can only guess this happened somehow during packing by the lbs. Never had a problem with past 5-6 shipments but I’ve now got a new bike case on order and will be packing myself going forward. Anyone have this same scratch/scrape repair problem and/or have a method to best fix? I don’t mind paying a few bucks to have it professionally done but I can use touch up paint and/or nail polish myself if that’s my only/best solution. I emailed Cervelo a few days ago for advice but never heard from them. Thanks for feedback/suggestions.
low risk way is pure black and pure white nail polish and see how it goes. if yucky nail polish remover.
The first thing I would do is polish with automotive rubbing compound. This will remove the scuff mark on the E and also any area that is not scratched through the clearcoat. Once you compound your repair area should be limited to the deep scratches that went through the clear.
Buy black and white touchup at the auto parts store. look for touchup the includes clearcoat. buy some 2000 grit sandpaper and rubbing coumpound also.
start by putting white and black in the deep scratches and let it dry. use the 2000 sandpaper to sand off any that is on the clear around the scratch.
start building layers of clearcoat in the scratch until the clear is higher than the original clear.
Sand the repair with 2000 grit to level it with the original paint.
polish with rubbing compund to bring back the shine to the repair and area around it that was sanded with 2000.
If you have scratches in the clear you can build up the clear, sand and poilsh.
