Best way to protect your ears while swimming?

New to swimming here, seems my ears really hurt after my swim practice. Any advice?

More information might help. Do you wear a swim cap? Is it your ears or your ear drums?

I’ve never heard of someone needing to protect their ears. I just wear goggles and a swim cap, with the cap down enough to cover about the top third of my ears.

I use ear plugs - get them at any drug store - the swimmers type. Really helps me with swimmer’s ear and the cold water.

I like “Mack’s” . The yellow and blue ones are the easiest to extract. Good luck.

Doc’s Pro Plugs.

Using ear drops to get the water out post workout to prevent swimmers ear (which wouldn’t hurt immediately post swim anyway, unless you already had it before that day’s swim). Swimming stores would have bottles of it.

Personally I’ve never had my ears hurt from swimming that wasn’t a result of an existing condition (swimmers ear, or an actual ear infection).

I wear a pair of ear plugs that I got in the hunting section at Walmart. They cost ~$2 and look like blue, soft rubber cones, and are connected by an orange string. I put them in, then tuck the string under my goggle strap in the back. Been doing so for 6yrs, and I think I’m on my third pair of plugs.

There are my favorite: http://www.sportsbasement.com/store/00012!Macks/Mack’s+AquaBlock+Earplugs+-+2+pairs?utm_source=VersaFeed&utm_medium=VersaFeed&utm_content=Macks+AquaBlock+Earplugs+-+2+Pairs&utm_campaign=base&v_traceback=c0706_0125_f0706_0406

Super soft (some earplugs hurt my ear canals after a while), seal well, cheap, easy to see if dropped, and don’t collect dirt like the silicone putty ones.

The ones I use are like those, just connected by a string.

Silicone earplugs + bend your ear closed + 2 swimcaps … sorry, what, WHAT? I can’t hear you!

All good advice. I had the experience that the ears hurt- but only in one certain pool. Seems the chemical content in that particular water disagreed with me- there were alot of kids in there, maybe the pee content was too high.

Overly chewed bubble gum in the ear keeps the water out.

geeze, there’s a guy I swim with who wears earplugs. He swims in my lane for masters. Always asking what the set is. Annoying.
