Looks like a rainy weekend coming up for IM Tremblant. Any suggestions on how to keep drive chain dry overnight?
Cheers

I would not worry. Bikes are designed to be rideable in the rain. Just lube it up in the morning. A bit of rain (or even heavy rain) won’t really change how much lubricant you lose on your bike transmission while it sits in transition.

Thanks Dev, that is a relief to hear.

The chain lubricant I use is water soluble. I’d be nervous about not adding a bit in the a.m.
That’s why I stopped using maple syrup on my chains…
I’m going to install my Ceramic Speed UFO chain on Sunday morning if it looks like it will rain Saturday night. I would strongly advise that you do the same. Chains can and will rust overnight, and they are liable to failure during the event. Your kilometers may vary
I would tend to listen to devashish_paul (knows his stuff and his advice is always solid)… however, if this is something that you are going to worry about. You can take a big trash bag (the kind you use for yard cleanup) and put it over your rear wheel.
If needed, you can make a cut in the bag. This will cover your rear cassette and rear derailleur.
Place another trash bag over your crank to cover your front derailleur.
This will pretty much cover all of your chain as well
LOLz…well that took all of one minute.

The one and only WTC event I ever did (Eagleman), you had to buy their seat cover if you wanted something on your bike overnight. They were very clear that once transition closed Saturday evening, they would go around and remove any other form of covering. Might have mentioned something about throwing handfuls of sand at your bike’s drivetrain as well, I don’t remember clearly.
If IM Tremblant is not so dickish, try something like this.

Hope thats a joke… May have been another competitor, which I think is completely likely from my experience.
I don’t get what the issue is with covering your bike with a garbage bag anyway, some have an internal battery for Di2 like mine and its a reasonable protection matter. They should be walking around instead with duct table if they get loose as a courtesy.
Overnight your chain will be ok but when you get to transition wipe it down with a cloth as you turn the crank and then re-lube it. I have been in a race where at the half way point in the bike everyone’s chain was squeaking like it hadn’t been lubed in a month due to the excessive rainfall. For a rainy race like IMMT this weekend (I’ll be there), wouldn’t hurt to put a oil soaked rag in the special needs bag and wipe your chain with it. If you can stand the noise though your chain would have to be on its last few km’s before the race to not make it another 90km with no oil on it.
Wrap it in aluminum foil.
Be that guy who buys a box of garbage bags at the drugstore, uses one to cover his bike and offers some to those nearby.
Also cover your aerobar pads so they aren’t sponges (won’t matter if it’s still raining, but nice if the rain stops pre-race).
" Denizens of T1" ?
My best suggestion is to get a wipperman link and just install the chain the morning of the race.

Bike chains are actually made of sugar and white bread.
They will completely disintegrate if they even get a splash of water on them.
I’d wrap the entire bike in bubble wrap, then wrap that in saran wrap, then cover it with large trash bags and then tin foil.
And then put a tarp over the whole thing. Just to be sure.

That what I do…god forbid it get wet!
Make sure to remove saddle and the whole cockpit after you check in.
Also, with all the electrical connections, don’t be the guy who get’s electrocuted the morning of the race…better remove battery and wiring harness too.

I would worry more about Dick Dastardly sabotaging your chain than the rain.
