What’s the best way to go from the Nice airport to a hotel downtown while lugging a bike box? I see they have taxis, busses, trains are nearby… Unfortunately my hotel doesn’t have a shuttle.
Will a bike box fit in the taxis? Are there taxi vans in the lineup as well? Has anyone tried the train option? What route worked for you?
Train is a 10min walk away, then 5min into Nice center. Taxis may or may not take the bike box, and better than 50% chance they’ll charge extra for it. Depends on if the guy’s having a good day or not. Make conversation, be friendly and not over the top, they’ll do it for free. Bus is a pain in the ass. Taxi might cost up to 20 Euros for the 2-3 mile trip into central Nice. Welcome to the Riviera.
BTW, it makes more sense as “I am a living soul, tied to a dying animal.” It’s just flesh.
How far is your hotel from the Nice central train station? Let that make up your mind. Or just hop on a shuttle from one of the nearby hotels if it’s around. There is bus service to the bus station in Nice, but it can take awhile. The bus station is right off Place Massena, on the edge of old Nice. Let the location of your hotel (closer to train or bus station) make up your mind on whether to bus or train it. (The bus and train stations in central Nice are about 1.5k apart.)
I got a fella with a station wagon taxi who was very nice. A cyclist himself. He charged a couple Euros extra for the bike box, but it was a nice taxi and a fine ride to my hotel so no complaints. The people in the hotel were very nice too, as was everyone in Nice.
