Best Tubular tires for Zipp wheelset

Hi,
I’m a beginner triathlete. I have a set of dimpled Zipp tubular wheels (404 front, 606 back) I recently blew a tire, it was a Continental Competition. I’m looking to replace with something that will work well with the wheelset. I was reading up on the Tangent tires that were made with the zipps in mind. I was wondering if these were quality tires, if so what size would everyone recommend? 21mm or 23mm. I’m a fairly big fella at 190lbs.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks,
Tom.

GP4000S - according to Zipp’s own testing and 3rd party testing. This has been discussed quite a bit on the forum.

For clinchers, yes. But As far as I know Conti still uses butyl tubes on their tubies.

The Vittoria Corsa Evo CX is my personal choice on a 900/808 (pre firecrest) setup.

Yes they do but the aero advantage of the GP4000S outweighs the extra rolling resistance of the butyl tube. Again, according to Zipp.

Also third parties are measuring the rolling resistance of the GP4000S at even lower levels than when Zipp made its recommendation.

Thanks for the info, there is a big learning curve for me.

Clarification needed…

In clincher Conti has both a 4000 and a 4000s.

I don’t see a 4000s in tubular, only 4000

I couldn’t tell the difference between the clincher tires, so I am not sure if the tubular version will match the performance you are talking about…Or maybe I am missing something. (likely.)

I think the other poster is referring to the 4000s clincher. For tubulars, Conti use butyl tubes, Vittoria and Zipp use latex. Get a tubie with a latex tube if you want speed. If you’re 190lb probably a good idea to go with the 23mm rather than 21mm.
