I just picked up a tubular wheel set for my CX bike. I’m new to the tubular world so don’t know what to get for tires. I don’t want to be changing tires, so I want something that I can ride on gravel, grass, and pavement. I think most of my use will be gravel but I plan on entering a handful of CX races on grass. Most of my gravel rides require ~5 miles of pavement so I want a tire that won’t get chewed up from use on pavement.
What do you recommend? My wheels are HED stinger 4’s… A few years old.
Any decent tubular will get chewed up quickly on the pavement. That said, Tufo makes one called the Cubus that is about $55 and is a decent all around tire that is pretty knobby. The challenge line is in the mid 70’s with the fango for faster conditions, Grifo for all around and Limus for heavy mud, they are a very nice tire. You can run sealant in them and they will last a while.
Remember you have to glue the shit out of cross tires, get help if you are unfamiliar, plus get a lot of glue
Sometimes you can find closeouts, the Vittoria with the silver tread were discounted a lot the last couple years, they were a nice tire but the rubber seemed kind of slippy. This is a pretty good inventory of tires

Don’t ride tubular cross tires on pavement, waste of money. Get a set of cheap clinchers or use another wheelset when you are not racing.
The exchange rate between the dollar and euro is pretty favorable these days, so I would check out Wiggle or the other Euro on line stores. Your 75$ may go farther than you think.
