Best Tri's In Seattle Area

What are the best Tri’s in the seattle area? I have a friend who just moved up there and i want to visit in 2011. Butttt would love to race at the same time.

What distance you wanting?

Lake Stevens is a good 70.3 race. Grand Columbian is back next year and they have a few distances up to full iron.

Of the races I’ve done, Black Diamond in Enumclaw is probably my favorite. A very pretty course and I enjoyed how the vent was put on.

I’m racing at Grand Columbian next September and am extremely excited. I’ve only heard great things.

I second the Black Diamond events. Oly/Sprint in June and Half in September. The one in June is officially called the Cascade Edge Triathlon. Good course, fun race. If you are looking for a low key season-starter, the Mt. rainier Du is also a good one (also, curiously, in Enumclaw). I haven’t done Lake Stevens (I hate that it’s two weeks before IMC), but have many friends who have done it and it’s pretty much praised across the board. Lots of other good races around. The Lake Padden Tri in June up here (Bellingham) is insanely popular. Honestly one of the things I love about living up here is the proximity to the races in BC. Of the eight key races I’ve done in the past two seasons, six have been in BC. The Oliver Half in June, The Desert Half in July, and IMC are all really really great events that I can easily drive to. And at some point I’ll do IMCdA, which will be easy as well. Also the Grand Columbian full is back, along with the half, this year. Supposed to be good. Plenty of choices for your visit.

Chelanman is outside of Seattle and you need to stay close, but its a great destination race. Although, if you’re looking for a 1/2 it might not be the best in the area. Mid July. 2 thumbs from everyone I know who has done it and it sells out.

Two great xterras- vashon and black diamond

Seafair sprint is fun, maybe we can have the elite wave be draft legal next year.

There are a number of good Olympic distance races as well- Haag lake is a fun course.

The best local long distance race is pacific crest.

I have a bit of a hard time classifying either Hagg lake or Pacific Crest as “local” when it comes to Seattle area races. But if we are extending the radius that far, I’ll take any of the BC races I mentioned above over your Oregon races.
