Best transition sunglasses for under 200

I’m a college student so price is a big point for me. I’m looking to buy transition lenses because most of my riding is done through wooded areas and early morning/late night. I do have regular sunglasses that I wear but as the sun goes down, it’s REALLY tough to see the potholes in the road…or even the road itself sometimes. What’s your suggestions for transition lenses that won’t put a hole in my pocket. I’m willing to spend up to 200 on a pair but would be thrilled to keep it closer to 100 especially b/c I’m looking to get aerobars, water bottle cages, and a tri-suit at the same time.

If you don’t need prescription lenses then check these out. I’ve been using the Optic Nerve photomatic lenses for over a year. I bought another pair through their website last week.
Go here then pull up the photomatic line of sunglasses

Optic Nerve says “Our Photomatic lens automatically adjusts to the changing light conditions to darken or lighten depending on the amount of sunlight or UV exposure. Reaction time is 7 to 10 seconds and the transmission shift is from a Category 1 lens to a Category 3 lens transmission. An advanced crystal is embedded im then lens resin that reacts with the intensity of the sun to create a change. The lens material is Grade A polycarbonate resin for superior impact resistance with 100% UV protection and Focalpoint lens technoloy for class one optical standards.”

Tifosi - they have several transition lenses and many under $75

Rudy all the way…the best ones going. i have 2 pair of photochromatic and they are exceptional.

I have the MTB ones from Specialized but I think they’re right under $200 or they were when i got them a few years ago.

X2 Tifosi, I was just at an expo last Sat that had them for $20!

WileyX has some options that are around $126

Designed for military use, so the lenses are tough. I’ve always wanted to try them since they have an optional ‘seal’ to keep wind and water off your eyes.

I like Wiley X. I use them for my shooting glasses. Haven’t tried them for cycling or running. The Blinks do look nice. Might look into a pair. The foam cavity does help keeping sweat and fog out of the lenses.

I just bought a pair of Oakley Flak Jackets through Oakley’s US Gov’t/Military website. Prices are pretty much 50% off through that program. Obviously, that only helps people who work for the government.

Rudy all the way…the best ones going. i have 2 pair of photochromatic and they are exceptional.

Rudy would be my suggestion as well. If you look around I think there’s a USAT discount on them too. I love my Rydons (although when I work out and race I wear my Oakley Half Jackets).

Specialized Arc II - photosensitive / transition, polarized, and the lens / frame geometry is such that they don’t interfere with my vision when down in the aerobars. Just picked up my 2nd pair (lost the first) on ebay for $125.

X3 on Tifosi.
