I am wondering what would be a great gift for my 7 year old son. He likes Yu-Gi-Oh cards mainly. But he has about 1,000 of these cards and more would be overkill. He’s not into action figures or clothes. Any suggustions?
Thanks,

Can you ever go wrong with Lego and boys?
What about that 24inch wheel Trek road bike?
Have him make a list - either at Walmart or with the big Toys R Us catelog. Your sure to get some hits that way.
I do like the lego idea - maybe some of those “mega blocks” as they are not as hard to lose as the little lego pieces you always end up stepping on.
My folks bought my 6-year-old son and my husband a model airplane and I bought a computer simulator to help them learn how to land it. My husband and son love flying model airplanes.
hmm. Having had the opportunity to hang back with a friend’s daughter the other day- what about books? I realize its a bit of an un-cool gift but it was loads of fun listening and watching her process the words and reading a dr.seuss book. It reminded me of how I used to love reading as a kid - how you can’t put a book down until you’ve finished it, reading to your parents to show you’re learning etc.
I am a BIG fan of LEGO too. Not the cruddy sets with pre-formed shapes, the simple blocks.
The only problem I had with R/C stuff was that I was too young to build the R/C car someone gave me when I was a kid. My dad probably had more fun building it and because it was expensive he was so paranoid about me playing with it that it wasn’t all that fun. (Not to mention you need space to play with it and battery technology back then was really sloooooow) I would’ve much preferred if I had gotten an R/C car once I was old enough to build it myself.
How about a toboggan? I LOVED my steel sled. I’ve seen some very nice wooden ones but those pre-formed plastic ones are friggin fast! I bought one a few years ago just for kicks but my co-worker stole it from me for his kids…
The really cool stuff now is Lego Mindstorms. Seven years old is a little too young for this, but the kit is incredible. It’s a full blown robotics kit with computer interface and software. Amazing stuff.
Not sure if it is cause or effect, (maybe a little bit of both) but when I was at MIT I don’t think I ever met anyone who didn’t have a kick ass lego set as a kid.
My mom sold mine for $5 at a yard sale. It would probably cost a couple grand to replace…
I’ll jump on the LEGO bandwagon. I’ve got 3-4 coffee cans full of them somewhere at mom’s house, and a bunch of the new Star Wars kits at home. Somebody still gets me one for Christmas every year…
Legos can’t miss.
Marble tracks you can build in different configurations
Wiffle ball and bat
Soccer ball
Game Boy advance, tons of Pokemon games for them
Book on how to build paper airplanes
Lincoln Logs
Trampoline
Hot Wheels car set
Bike
etc…
Santa brought my daughter a 24" Orbea when she was 7. Put some mini-aerobars on it.
She is now 12. Has been racing Tri and TT for five years. She can’t wait to come ride 3 regions of Italia with us. I can’t wait to take her.
my favorite toys as a kid were toys that I could use my imagination with. I had a couple of buckets of Lock Blocks (generic legos). I seemed to never have enough!! plus I had matchbox cars and of course toy guns. ![]()
A BB gun or fishing pole.
