Best tire (clincher) for Hed Jet 6/9 combo?

first pair of race wheels…what tire do people like for racing (half-IM and IM)? I search through the post archives and was surprised not to see this question (maybe i missed it?).

Clincher or tubular?

Best depends upon many factors that need to be balanced: lowest Crr, durability, flat resistance, etc. If at the pointy end and you want all speed possible, a nicely used Veloflex record 19mm with latex tube is nice. Maybe the new Bonty aerowing tire. For durability and some comfort over the IM distance, the Bonty RXL pros test well, roll nice and come in 23mm

Clincher – thanks.

I have a prorace 2 on my Jet 90 c2 rim.

Are these new wheels (i.e. do they have the C2 rim)? If so they are faster with a 23mm tire (if not, a 19-20mm tire is faster…use it in the front and a 23mm in the rear for flat resistance). I used to use Michelins, but switched to Conti GP 4000s and love 'em.

What makes you say that a 23mm tire is fastest on a C2 rim?

I ask because a Michelin PR3 (23mm) is way too wide for the C2. When mounted, this tire will measure at least 25mm wide while the rim is only 23mm.

The problem there is that the Michelin tire runs large (i.e. it’s marked 23mm, but is really a 25mm). The C2 rim was designed to be fastest with a 23mm tire (actual width). Contis, for example, run true to size.

yes, they’re the (new) C2s.

I just got that setup and I’m running Conti-4000s and it seems fast to me. 23mm as well based on the HED website.

Conti Attack on the front. Rear? Stick with Conti’s. Make is a set and put on a Conti Force or another Conti Attack. These tires have been showing good numbers on the C2’s. I believe the Attack is a 22cc and the Force is a 23cc which is perfect. The Attack is a lower profile tire and spreads nicely on the C2 rim width. Take your tire pressure up to about 90-95 psi at most. Enjoy!

Where did you see the Conti attacks combo showing “good numbers” (assuming you mean Crr)?

gotcha.

I’ve got a new PR3 (20mm) tire I’ll be mounting today on a C2 rim…should be a better match width-wise.

I rock the Michilin Pro Race 3’s i believe… and I suck at spelling.

i have a jet c2 disc and just wondering if you have seen data anywhere on tire tests on c2 from your posts i havent come across any nut would be interested

also on the pressure what is the logic of lower pressure??? i was also told by hed to lower area of tire was bigger??? but surely pressure is pressure and not volume??

really – only 95psi at the most? I had thought you could slightly overinflate the Conti 4000s?
