Best superbike ever made

This is still the prettiest. Just popped up on my YouTube feed.

Old Faithful and nothing else realistically come close.

Endura produced a video with Obree last year (I think) and it made me glad we abandoned the pursuit of true super-bikes. Old Faithful looks terrifying from a comfort and a handling perspective. Add brakes to make it road legal and you have an over the bar death trap. But the video proved Old Faithful remains light-years ahead of current super bikes. Something like 80 watts better than superman and 20 watts better than the current best modern tech Endura could deliver if I remember correctly.

For a moment there I thought you had left out an “r”
never mind.

I remember reading copies of Cycling Weekly back in that era, and there were a few British TT’ers running with the Obree Egg position on the road. That looked frightening.

Old Faithful was a pretty bike too…

It could be fast, but I don’t think it’s the prettiest. Sorry, but it’s damn ugly to me. Somehow P5X, Andean, Ventum, Ceepo… that kind of bikes and frames don’t appeal to me at all. On the other hand, IA10, P5 and Canyon bikes look great to me. They are easy on the eyes and look very balanced.

considering that the Lotus 108 (the original one) looks nothing like anything the p5x or any of the others you’ve mentioned, I disagree. I don’t like any of those either. I’m drawn to a clean aesthetic, and the 108 is clean.

If I had enough $$$, I’d be ordering a bike from Rob English for my next TT bike.

Missing a lot of important things…like integrated hydration and nutrition storage.

Best? Maybe. Prettiest? Absolutely not, that thing is ugly as sin

Them’s fightin’ words. You gotta back up the talk.

sorry, I’m with others…that thing is FAR fro pretty
.

back up your talk…

The REAL problem with both bikes is they’re British.
Which meant that as soon as the French came back from their 3.5 month red wine sloshed lunch break and realised they were not designed in France, they banned them. And cycling took another step 20 years backwards.

The picture does all the talking that needs to be done.

Yes it does. Freaking BEAUTIFUL!!!

Who was the UCI president banning these bikes ?

Hein Verbruggen (UCI president from 1991 to 2005)… nearly french, indeed… but still not quite… just few hundreds km north east…

ugly as sin

I know you are just using an expression but I’ve always thought whoever came up with that wasn’t doing it correctly.

There is one hanging from the walls at Nytro.

Give ‘em a call - it could be yours!

And cycling took another step 20 years backwards.
I see this sentiment frequently, but I wonder how many people espousing it don’t draw lines that are just as arbitrary. Should triathlon allow fully-faired recumbents?

Love the Lotus bikes, have a frame here - the Lotus Sport edition with white graphics. In the early days before XLAB, we imported Lotus bikes, must have been the mid-90s. Had a few other brands that were pretty awesome too, Hotta, Corima. I remember we had a Corima that was this yellow/orange color. Everyone would stop and stare at it lol

Our prized showroom bike, unfortunately never went to production - with just a few made is the Bursford.
