The wife is looking for a quality treadmill that she can use to run indoors. I love the outdoors, but I may use it a bit as well. Any recommendations for machines in the $500 range? Thanks.
I don’t think a decent one exist at that price point
.
x2. You will have to drop double that to get a decent one
If that’s your budget, buy a used one. We found a great Vision Fitness treadmill a few years ago for $200 that is nicer than anything we could buy new for that price. And it’s still running strong today.
Buy used. Found a $400 pacemaster a few years ago that I’ve had excellent luck with. Many people use their treadmills as coat racks and eventually want to get rid of them.
You might search gyms that are closing – they may sell good used equipment at low prices. I found a Quinton HR ClubTrack Plus for $600 dollars. I did need to spend $175 to have an electrician put in a 210-220 outlet in my garage. Well worth it.
Craigslist for a used one.
Especially if you are bigger. Most of the cheapo mills have short beds, and weak motors that you’ll stall out if you are a bigger person, and or you have a slightly inefficient stride.
make sure you get one with a 5hp continuous duty motor. (at least that’s what I remember from when I was shopping.)

You might try a ‘Want to Buy’ to find one of those perfectly useful coat racks. I’ve got a Bodyguard and like the solid feel. If I feel like I’m running on a hunk of flimsy sheet metal I probably wouldn’t use it either.

Weight is very important to the running feel of the machine. Gyms are equipped with very heavy machines. The one I got has a very basic control and display panel but it’s so heavy that I’m going to sell it with the house if I ever move. That or have someone else take it apart and move it.
You give me the choice between doing a HIM or moving that treadmill up the stairs. I’ll do the HIM.
