Wild turkey and ice.
I’m sure people aren’t going to like this answer (I know it’s “processed”), but:
Kirkland’s Complete Nutrition Shake at Costco
$24 for 32 ready to drink pouches. 30g carbs, 9g protein so right in between 3:1 and 4:1 carb to protein - 230 total calories. You even get some vitamins and minerals for free if you believe in that crap.
I just toss one in my bag before every workout and drink it after. It’s cheap ($0.75 a piece!), ready to drink and close enough to what’s in most recovery products. I almost don’t want to think about how many of these I’ve had.
The only protein shake I’ve found to prevent muscle soreness, nearly every time, is the EAS 100% Whey Protein Powder (w/ ~6g of BCAA).
I like Generation UCAN chocolate or vanilla for a recovery mix.
I often buy the Organic Fuel or Organic Balance drinks from Whole Foods to have something quick to throw in my bag for post workout so I don’t have to deal with a powder mix:

I really like the Oslo. A bit pricy if you use it all the time but it tastes really good which is a huge plus since some recovery drinks taste terrible.
Just protein powder, mixed with almond milk, a teaspoon of peanut butter, and sometimes a banana. Not a fan of whey protein powder. I use soy based or vegetable based (pea, chia, mushroom) protein powder most of the time.
Making your own in a blender is a lot cheaper than buying little recovery drinks. Not to mention less wasteful.
Steroids. But if that is too much for you. Percocet works good to. Oh ,
You don’t want to get banned. Nothing.
Jokes aside, inflammation can be a good thing except when you are close to a race. It is your body essentially repairing itself as quickly as possible. Whether this is lifting weights, cycling or running. A couple people here said a protein shakes eliminated soreness. This is just fuel and nutrient for the process. Only weigh it would alleviate soreness is in the absence is such nutrients. Steroids and muscle relaxers by their metabolic and pharmacological nature foster faster recovery. That is why they are banned from sport, controller or illegal from a safety perspective.
I was using the infinit repair drink, then one day i compared it to the “Premier Protein” drinks my wife gets from costco.
30g of protein and only 1g of sugar (versus Infinits 15g protein and 40g sugars). Now I grab one of her shakes after a work out if I’m not able to eat right away (I still love Infinit Ride and Run).
Chocolate milk
.
I use Premier Protein whenever I want a protein shake too! You can’t beat these prices kids.

Yes. A lot of “protein” drinks have more sugar than protein. It is ridiculous. This is typical:
20g PROTEIN!!!
Servings 2
Per serving:
protein 10g
sugars 22g
Chocolate milk
And a banana.
Chocolate milk
x2 and much cheaper than other options
.
White milk
.
If you can afford to buy a Vitamix…it is awesome.
Just got back from a workout…
1/4 Cup Water
1 Cup Grapes
2 Whole Carrots
1/2 Cup Pinapple
2 HUGE CUPS of Spinach
1 Cup Ice
***Throw it in the Vitamix----
Good tasting and all Natural
EAT REAL FOOD FFS!
I do make a great matcha latte with vanilla protein.
Sure chocolate milk is good for those who are not lactose intolerant, but another suggestion is whatever you use for training. In my case, I just drink a bottle of custom Infinit nutrition formula. It has a little protein, as well as carbs. I’ll have a protein shake after the shower though, which is about 20 min after I’m done stretching/drinking the Infinit. Not every suggestion here is going to sit well for everyone. Go experiment what works best for you.
2x on the Infinit Nutrition “REPAIR”. I mix it with coconut milk and it is fantastic.
