Best Races in Ontario

I’m going to be competing in my first season in Ontario and I’m curious which races are known for what. Which is the flattest/fastest bike wise? Which is the climbers favorite? How about fast run course or water? I’m curious to find out which short course events are a bit above average in the province. I’ve got my eye on certain events but I’d like the inside scoop.

Thanks in advance

Lots of great races here.

Thanks for the reply these are the races I’ve been looking at. What I’m more specifically after is which to choose when they are over lapping. I’m looking to do 4-6 events with Toronto Triathlon Festival being the one I’m not going to miss. So if I had to choose between June 1 at Milton vs June 7th at Binbrook I’m curious which insiders would choose. I’ve read the write up of both but nothing like opinions of STers instead of event coordinators.

Subaru
Milton Cambridge Guelph Lake I Peterborough Valens Niagara Orillia Guelph Lake II

Multisport Woodstock Triathlon Binbrook (Hamilton) Triathlon Welland Triathlon Huronia (Midland) Triathlon Gravenhurst Triathlon Belwood (Fergus) Triathlon Bala Falls Triathlon Bracebridge Triathlon Toronto Island Triathlon Wasaga Beach Triathlon Lakeside Triathlon

Toronto Tri Fest is pretty good. Well organized now that they got a few under the belt and a nice course. Pretty fast bike, flat fast run.

Welland Triathlon (whatever it is called now) is great. MSC does a fantastic job and it is pancake flat.

Climbers will like anything in the Muskoka region but Milton is also pretty hilly and a nice trail run for the most part.

for early season this year I would pick Binbrook over Milton just because of the extra week for the water to warm up and the binbrook bike course is a lot easier for early season if the crappy weather has kept your outdoor bike training lower than normal for the spring. I am thinking of the Cambridge race to kick off my season since it is a venue that is new and I used to live in Cambridge and it looks like a great place to race.

I would disagree with this. Kelso is a much smaller lake and will be warmer than the water at the race in Binbrook even though it is a week earlier. This was the case last year and expect it to be the case this year as well.

Agree, Kelso always warms up fast and people are usually swimming there by mid-May.

You must try the Cornwall Tri in late August (24). It has a great atmosphere and is very well organized.
Rob Allen is the Race Director. Nearly $4000 in cash prizes, but you’re gonna have to go hard to get some.

for my money, the bluewater tri in bright’s grove is one of the very best races around. friendly, chilled out, fast as hell.

collingwood can be a great race for ‘climbers,’ insofar as any race in ontario favours climbers. the goderich tri i have good memories of - pretty, challenging, unique - probably a good race for the diesel rouleurs.

really, ontario has more options than almost anywhere on earth. australians and californians come to southwestern ontario and can’t believe how many good-value races there are, and how often. you’re lucky.

Toronto Triathlon Festival is not Prepared!!! I crashed out of race on bike. They had no provision to get me or my bike back to transition. I had to ride 10K on broken bike with separated shoulder and broken collar bone back to transition. They had a Dr who did not even attempt to help me clean up my road rash… My helmet was Badly damaged and they didn’t even do basic checks to see if I was concussed. They said " I might drop into a hospital on yer way home"
I ain’t no pussy… And certainly am not a whiner, but don’t expect them to have proper first aid should something happen.

Ps I hit a full water bottle on course while drinking from mine, one hand on bars
Pss Great Venue!! My home town and awesome route ect…
