I had planned on buying a zipp disc + 808 for my new p3…but now I’m considering going a bit less aero and buying a set of wheels that I can use for road racing too.
So, what’s the best all around wheels for both road racing and triathlon?

Zipp 606, Sram S60/S80, Hed 6/9
If you are a competent rider you will have no issues with the deeper rear. If going for clincher then 60mm front and rear will save weight
yes, i’m a fairly competent rider and I was intending to go tubular, but now that I think about it, maybe I should go with clinchers if using for a considerable amount of road races.
So, comments on the clincher vs. tubular for this specific scenario are appreciated as well.
Most of my road racing will be a mix of hill TT’s, crits and a couple medium to long distance races. It’s a fairly even mix of road racing and triathlon.
Any of the Hed jet C2 series
Clincher convenience with a “tubular” ride quality
jet 4 or Jet 6 but go with the C2 rim

FWIW, my friend is the operations dir. for Garmin-Chipotle and he said his riders LOVE the 808 rear, esp the sprinters (conditions provided; road surface, weather ect). 404’s are becoming the norm whenever conditions allow. 303’s are the regular wheel for the most part.
I say 404 front and 808 rear, depending on where and what you race. Round here in CO, it would be a great setup if the wind was OK. If there was wind, it would be standard wheels anyway.
808 is stiff so they wont ride it if its a rough course or too long. He said they’re starting to like deeper wheels for the most part and are using them whenever possible. Even had a request for the 28 tires they used in Paris-Roubaix last year mounted to deeper wheels for Tour of Cali this year.
no question…zipp 404s…your combination of road racing and tts/tri are best for a lower depth wheelset…only question is how hilly are those races because this could lead you into the 303 category if the hills are really steep

More info to digest: my A-race for the season is IM Canada and after that it’s the Hawaii 70.3.
I live in Hawaii (Oahu), so there are plenty of hills and wind…
Thanks for all the suggestions-------
than deffinent best bet would be buy the 404’s and sepnd an extra 100 or 200 on a disc wheel cover…it works 98% as well as a disc wheel without you actually having to always worry about crappy winds
.
reynolds assaults. way less than 404s and carbon clinchers are cool
I bought my 07 zipps 404s used for 850…canadian…and they are clincher with dura ace hubs
.
FWIW i’m doing very similar races as far as Road racing/crits to tris. I’m getting some edge composites 68mm carbon clinchers. Always rode tubies in the past, but dont want to deal with the glue job necessary for crits and have to worry about a road side change in a tri. The clinchers are a little heavier then the tubes but i figure I cant have my cake and eat it too!
Another vote for Reynolds Assaults - 46mm profile clinchers, lightweight at about 1525 grams, very durable, and reasonably priced.
Get some clinchers, I like HED and renyold wheels… You really can not go wrong with either one…

I have a pair of the Reynolds Assaults, too. They are 1494g with the decals removed. Add another 7g for veloplugs. Very light setup. I have 3000 miles on my set and they are perfect. I have hit potholes galore on them as well as pass a RD and hanger between the spokes and the seatstays.
For road racing and tris, I would look into the Strike wheelset. They use the 66mm rims, so they should be very aero, albeit a bit heavier. The 66 up front with a cover for the rear would be really fast for TT. Dual 66 for road or windy TTs will be no slouch either.
